If Bernardo goes, then BDB will just do what he did last season when called upon.

Yeah, I'm not wholly convinced we'll sign a LB/LWB. If the right player becomes available at the right price, then maybe, but I don't think we're going all out - even if Bernardo leaves.

As you say, we have BDB to step in. Roberts can play there and there's Cochrane in the wings too. I also wonder whether he might experiment with Izzy there in an U23 or cup game

Agree with most of what you say, but can't see Izzy as a wingback.
Not the most convincing in defence, if I remember correctly.

Unless someone comes up out of the blue that represents great value I don't think we'll do much by way of permanent deals. 30 mil max spent but could also see us spending nothing.

I think we'll get another left wing back/full back despite Marchs' start this year, another striker for sure and then maybe a couple of others depending loans going out and fitness. If we landed the following I'd be over the moon.

- Ryan Sessegnon - Loan (Don't think Spurs will allow a future perm deal)

- Divock Origi - Loan (with option or obligation to buy), or buy

- New DM only if Molumby goes back out on loan

- Until the news today on Izquierdo I'd have liked an explosive winger as something different to what we have, but sounds like he may still be an option. Dan James would be my choice if we did anything in this area, along with Hudson-Odoi (loan) if he's allowed to leave for more game time

I think we'll try to avoid the loan route if we can, but feel we'll be more open to it than seasons gone by as there doesn't seem to be the value in the market everyone was expecting.

I realise the above is a tad, optimistic.

We will not be signing anyone else for the first team. Potter has made that pretty clear in recent press conferences. Tony would rather gamble on some semblance of financial security and hope we stay up this season. If we do go down though, with the lack of business/profit we have turned, we wont be immediately on the precipice of administration or worse due to the pandemic.

Then take into account the 100+ million we'll probably then make from White/Dunk/Trossard and others that would leave en masse at the end of the season, financially we'd be incredibly secure, as opposed to a team like Villa.

It'll be interesting how 'new Covid restrictions could last 6 months' hits the latter days of transfer window. It's a massive hit. Anticipate that any big business done for most including us.

Think we have trimmed all of the excess out of the squad re 1st team high earners.. We now need to sign a couple of quality players in key areas to re balance the squad THEN it could be described as a positive window. Thus far, it has been al about cost cutting which has become increasingly concerning when compared to the business being completed in the rest of the league.

I'd be a lot more concerned if we'd splashed the cash. Some clubs have been throwing crazy money at pretty average players - in the middle of a Pandemic with no clear idea of how it'll impact short to medium term finances. It's been clear since work started at Lancing that we have a different strategy. Obviously the on-pitch revolution couldn't start immediately, but the day CH was sacked was the dawn of the new era.

Incidentally, I'm pretty sure that TB and his team do a thorough financial analysis of potential selling clubs - they won't only be looking at an individual player, they will also know how financially desperate (or otherwise) the club is to sell.

With luck we'll sign Zeqiri or another decent 3rd pick striker.

And then I think we are done for this window.

We have removed Stephens/Duffy/Murray/Button/Mooy/Montoya/Schelotto wages....When you add that up, I cannot for a second think we are spending more on wages than last year considering the amount of first team regulars have gone.

We have lso bagged 10 mill from AK
Obviously fees for sales of Mooy and Montoya/Button
Loan fees for GM and Duffy

All in all apart from an outlay of 900k on Veltman we havent spent out at all, and it would be prudent to think that any manger trimming his squad so thoroughly would at least get a few players back in return for key areas.

Spent more than 900k. Not all the fees are available, but we've signed Dendoncker, van Hecke, Ella, Weir. Dd was out of contact so no transfer fee, van Hecke is reported 1.8 million, Weir was 500k, and Ella had three years left on his contract at Amiens, he must have cost quite a lot, surely numbered in the millions.

Also spent money on Zac Emmerson from Oldham, but as a 15 year old he can't have been too much, surely?

I can't see Molumby and Stephens going, that would seem a bit nuts.

I think we are nearing the point where any further outgoings should be matched with a new signing.

I don't agree that 2 or 3 injuries would end in disaster though.
We have a decent coach and a deep squad of versatile players.

If Maupay, Connolly and Ryan get injured for example who replaces them?

The squad isn't that deep anymore. Plus lots of reports of Molumby going.

Just on wages, we've given new contracts to White and Dunk, (probably others, I forget) and I doubt Lallana comes cheap, so we're almost certainly paying more than last year, despite losing Muzza and potentially Stephens

Mooy, Montoya, Duffy would have been high earners too. Lallana will be on significantly less than he was at Liverpool. Take your point on the other 2 as well but I doubt we'd be paying more currently than last year.

We're about £15m in profit from the dealings so far I believe.
.

In transfers maybe but the wage bill must be looking much healthier. There is surely serious work being done on a striker. Going in with our current options is suicide. Imagine Maupay getting a serious injury straight after the window shuts.

In Lallana and Veltman we’ve probably got north of £40m-worth of top new player that complements what we have for basically naff-all - outstanding business by the club. Adding a decent back-up striker and getting Jose fit would make this a brilliant window in the current climate. I’m not remotely stressed about rivals spunking tens of millions on ‘proven’ talent like Wilson - it’s going to come back and bite them in most cases. Would rather be in our position than most of the rest of the ‘bottom half’. Seeing what was essentially the second XI play like they did last week (hopefully same again tonight) was even more encouraging regarding cover and competition.

I'm sure BBA&P know what they are doing, I honestly don't think we've lost any player so far that has weakened us?

Not weakened us but losing Murray, Duffy, Mooy and Stephens and Button replacing them with Academy players is a big move. Gut feeling says the right move though.

Completely agree. Lallana, Veltman for less than a million is ridiculous Ben White and Tariq Lamptey also in the squad for the full season it does feel like despite losing decent prem players we have upgraded.

If Maupay and Connolly get injured before the new year, then I would expect Ali J Trossard or Ali Mac to cover them.
If after that then we may have Andone as an option.

There is also Gyokeres who may or may not be able to step us to this level.
