Our wage bill , and spending / fees and losses over the last few years is nowhere near - compared to clubs run by oligarchs or nation states maybe - and this year we’ve continued in that vein. New contracts, refusing to sell key players - a loan squad to rival Chelsea - and still 10 days of business left.

Totally agree with you.We have had a very good window in terms of investing in the team and refusing to sell our best players.

Yes,i would love to see us improve our striker options,but not at the expense of paying inflated fees/or wages or signing unsuitable players(Locadia!)

I know nothing at all, but we've clearly been chasing a couple of names earlier in the window.

I just can't see how we could expect to enter this compressed season with just Maupay and Connolly as senior strikers. Gyokeres may have some cameos if he's still with us, but he really needs more game time so he can progress and he won't get that with us this season unless something has gone badly wrong.

I Posed this question to Naylor in the Q&A he does after the games in the Athletic as you would expect he was tight lipped I asked to you think we will have a busy last 10 days or so and his response was hard to say but anticipate a striker so I think we could see a JM leave on loan to MILL maybe a midfielder come in Barios Maybe? the striker and we know we want a left sided player

More similar to him than Eden Hazard, Thorgon Hazard probably the most comparable. That napoli side quality though, with Insigne as well.

The point is Trossard might be a natural finisher but playing through the centre on his own probably not ideal. Jahanbaksh or even Alexis would make more sense.

I just can't see Origi as a Potter-type player. Brewster maybe, but I can't see Liverpool loaning him to us to be second- or third-choice. Which he would be at first, because of his lack of PL experience. I think GP would be okay going with what he has, especially with Trossard playing in a more central position and both Ali J and Ally Mac showing some sharpness in front of goal. But I agree that we need at least one more body.

Sessegnon as LWB? All day long for me. If that sort of quality hits the market you don't think twice if the finances make sense. The classic bargain - a player of proven ability who is coming off a down year.

I really can't see us avoiding the need for a striker/different option. We took apart Newcastle's defence with our current striking options and will do again against teams with a similar defensive style in the future, but when we were up against Chelsea's physically powerful and fast defence, we didn't have the type of centre forward who would've made our possession more effective. This is the hole in our squad which needs filling.

THey're seemingly looking to sell anyway, in which case you just have to work out where the value is. If they're insisting on a buy back clause: walk away, as there seems little incentive for us to develop him in that case (unless it was something ridiculous, which clearly it won't be).

At risk of sounding like BG here, I still keep landing back on Solanke. Perhaps it's the Ashworth connection, as it certainly isn't his Bournemouth form that's making me think of him. But you'd like to think he's got something about him for two clubs to have taken that gamble so far. Age-wise, he fits the profile. Maybe Potter could work his magic (or, ring Bielsa and get him to have a word with the lad and instantly transform him into Mbappe).

On second thoughts, get Josh King. I must be drunk on these last three wins.

I really, really agree Solanke.
Makes a lot of sense to me.
I'd say he ticks every box apart from 'prolific' but I don't actually know how crucial that is in a youngish striker.
He'd give us something very different up top.
For me, him and Sessegnon would just be the dream. We'd have an incredibly balanced squad.

Totally agree about Solanke, I think he’d be ideal.

It was understandable he struggled at Bournemouth last year, it wasn’t a good place for any player to be, let alone a young striker trying to make a name for himself in the game. Howe had gone and was no support to him.

Solanke’s confidence and performance levels noticably improved after he scored though and I think with a manager like Potter bringing the best out of him on a coaching and mental level, I really think he could thrive. He has only just turned 23 so still young and if you look at someone like Calvert-Lewin, who is the same age, but only now starting to follow through on his promise with the right manager for him and I think Solanke could be the same.
