My father had one and from a beneficiary’s perspective it was certainly useful and helpful; one less, but obviously important item, to worry about at a difficult time. There was also a life insurance part to the plan as well; this paid out a reasonable sum and in normal non-Corona times this could have paid for something after the funeral.

The plan was with the Co-op and as insurers and funeral directors they were superb.

Sun Life were excellent were excellent for my MIL, when her husband died.
They paid up straight away and money to spare (funeral plan taken out about 15 years ago).

For us, we tried various companies and it seemed a no-goer.
Too many pitfalls......
So we've been putting money aside in our account to cater for the eventuality.

We're planning to do that too, but I understand there is often a surplus of bodies, so not all are needed. Might need a backup plan!

yes, we both have a policy with co-op. never thought about it until we had to have a funeral for our daughter and it made me realise how important it is. i would hate for our kids to be thrown in at the deep end and have to fund/organise a funeral amidst so much sorrow.

my wife's aunt had a co-op plan and all went smoothly when it needed to be used.

I haven't signed up yet but I have been looking into this making sure that the family are consulted and are comfortable with my wishes which are quite straight forward, I don't want a funeral service or casket instead I wish that my body is collected and taken to a crematorium for disposal I don't want any return of ashes, then at a later date friends and family can if they wish meet up for a wake.

This thread is useful reminder as I had contacted the Coop funeral service a couple of months back asking for a cost but at that time it was not a plan the Coop offered but I was told that they intended to add a very basic plan shortly, so I wil give them a call now.
