It will dawn on people, some slower than others, that last season was more to do with the players than the manager or tactics. Potter has a huge task ahead of him. We have to have a really positive pre-season otherwise we don’t lift the confidence of 2019 so far.

I agree totally. We are certainly no stronger than last season and we know how that ended. The sooner we get the signings in that are so utterly needed the sooner my fears for the season will reduce.

But we've also looked good against Athletico Madrid, and beat Chelsea, and Sevilla in recent years.
But knee jerk analysis based on a Tom Cairney screamer (Buy him !, buy anyone !, Sell him ! Sell all of em ! we're better ! we're worse ) is perhaps premature. .

We’ve not had to shake the low confidence of a really bad end of season for sometime though, at least going pre-Poyet. There will still be players with fragile confidence. This really needs to be a pre-season where goals and wins bring back some kind of belief and confidence, otherwise 2019 will continue as it started. Can’t just brush these off as only friendlies.

Squad's fine - stayed out of the bottom three all last season. We just had a manager who didn't know to use it to its full potential...................................apparently......
