French winger Alex Frutos has left Albion by mutual consent. A deal was agreed by both parties, and the former Metz player is now a free agent.

Albion boss Dean Wilkins said, "Unfortunately things haven't worked out as either we or Alex had hoped, and the decision was reached amicably and made in the best interests of both the club and the player.

"I would like to thank Alex for his efforts during his time here and wish him all the best for his future career."

Frutos was one of three French players to join Albion in August 2005; he signed from Metz on a free transfer and played 37 times and scored three goals in the Championship, during his first season with the club.

However, he failed to rediscover his initial form last season, and during 2006/07 was limited to just 15 first-team appearances, mostly as a substitute.

I feel really sad about this.

he was undoubtedly a flair player and an " entertainer" and my concern at the moment is that we are filling th eteam with workmen, not entertainers....if that is so then when things get tough as it no doubt will, people will not come through the gates to see workmen....people want some excitement in their lives.....

I wish him the best of luck and thank him for some really good moments in teh Championship.....

Sounds like he wasn't exactly putting his heart into it for The Albion.

I'd prefer a bunch of devoted workmen (remember those knackered-out carthorses that played for Forest, that ended up winning the European Cup?) than loads of entertainers polishing their nails while waiting to showboat.

Agreed.

A bit bizarre really - I don't doubt he was better suited to the Championship than this level, but I don't see how you go from one of the better players in the team to not making the squad at a lower level like that.

We need to bring in someone capable of something vaguely creative now, what with Knight, Currie, CKR, Carole and Frutos having departed.

None of the Frenchman have been worth it in the long run have they? Chaigneau, Carole, Frutos, Bertin... they either turn to shite or leave at the first possible opportunity.
