Whilst it would be great to see all of them back together, why deprive yourself of a great night out? I had the same attitude about the Stranglers, for 20 years refusing to go and see them without Hugh Cornwell. But then I went to see them without him, and guess what, I had a great time and would do it again in an instant.

Must admit I still feel the same way about The Stranglers, having no desire to see them post-Cornwell....and the less said about Marillion the better. No matter what you think of post-Gabriel Genesis, at least Phil Collins' vocal style was almost identical to PGs, the same can't be said of most 'replacement' lead singers.

Apart from one or two Style Council tracks and 'From the Floorboards Up,' the rest of PW's output is, one is afraid, tedious and unlistenable.

Rubbish! Weller has written some absolute classics during his solo days. Above The Clouds is a beaut. All of the 'Wild Wood' album and 'As Is Now'.

True, he's mellowed out a bit in time but his songwriting is still top notch. And he has one of the best singing voices around.

Went to see them last night (From The Jam that is) and was really disappointed.

To be fair to them my only real gripe with them was that they didn't play for that long (just over an hour).

They had no support act, the venue was not suitable for the gig and it was stupidly hot!!

The venue was at a hotel in the middle of no where (High Rocks - just outside Tunbridge Wells). Doors were at 7:30 so I got there just before 8 expecting to see a support act, alas there wasn't one! Good job I did get there that early though as it took 45 minutes to get served!! They only had 5 people behind the ramp for about 5-600 people. Due to the heat all the pumps f***ed up so most of the beer was off. By the time I got served the only thing left on tap was Stella and Boddies and only one of the Stella taps was working, this meant all the bar staff were just hanging about waiting to get on the tap.

When they finally came on at 9:15ish they rattled through the tracks like they were on a promise. The sound was awful!! Far too base heavy and the vocal was far too low. They played until 10 then came back on and did a 3 song encore. I was back in my flat at 10:30 pretty disappointed by the whole thing.

Oh well Happy Mondays next week, hopefully they will be better (not a great deal to beat!!)

When I saw them at the Zodiac, they came on stage at 8.30 and played till 10, then did a three-song encore. Mind you, that was the first gig of the tour. The old boys must be knackered by now. I have tickets for the last gig of the tour, at the Brighton Centre, on December 21st. That WILL be good.

Went to see (from) The Jam last night at High Rocks, Tunbridge Wells.

Get your tickets now for Brighton Centre in December. Have to say probably most enjoyable gig I've seen in last five years.

Anyone else been to High Rocks ? It's in the middle of nowhere down windy lanes in a forest. Sound venue though.

Funniest moment was as the band sauntered onto stage a cry of We are the Mods etc rang out from the crowd mostly made up of Phil Mitchell lookalikes in Fred Perrys. Audience was really up for it and got into the spirit. Made a change from recent gig experiences where people just seem to want to have conversations with their mates all night instead of watching the gig.

Opening numbers were...... In the City and Modern World. Couldn't get any better.

The band were so passionate that it didn't matter Weller wasn't on stage. Songs are so strong they stand up on their own. Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler gave 110% full on passion

Arthur or hill 16 southwick, did either of you buy one of the expensive programmes (a tenner) that were being sold? The lady selling them at the Zodiac was Russell Hastings's wife.

The gig finished just before half 10 so you must have missed a few numbers if back in your flat by 10.30.

Agree about bar service. Don't these venues realise if they put a few more staff on they will shift a lot more pints and cover their costs 10x over. Same goes for most of the venues in Brighton.

Saw them being sold but didn't bother buying one. Gave up buying gig programmes years ago.

Guy with greyish hair and a Billy Brag T shirt on? If so he was stood just in front of me during the gig.

Just goes to show how shit the sound was in there that I didn't notice there was an act on as that must have been when I was at the bar.

Thought they were ok, just thought it was far too short and the sound was awful.

Also it wasn't long after 10:30 I was back in doors, I did park right outside though so I was away pretty sharpish.

Agree re your comments about the 40 something Phil Mitchell look-a-likes.

I was also there last night after getting a last minute ticket from a guy on ebay and meeting him outside to collect it.

I am in the fortunate position of being able to walk to the High Rocks and although yes it was extremely hot and the acoustics were poor I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. I thought it was very intimate and probably more like when the Jam started out playing small pubs and clubs. Having seen them at Wembley Arena (amongst other places) and the High Rocks I know which I would prefer.

Lots of 40+ year olds shouting out the words to the old favourites - I'm not sure I've been to a gig where 90% of the audience knew all the words!!

I was amazed how much like Weller the new leader singer sounded.

I ended up bumping into a couple of old school friends one of whom I probably hadn't seen for 20 years.
