Very smart kit we had at Peterborough.

Most snowy game I recall was 71/72 v Torquay at the Goldstone and the 5,000 odd crowd was less than half expected as BR had put the 'match off' boards up at stations.

Really good 2-2 draw.

I seem to recall a Cup game at Wolves (or WBA?) in the late '70s when it was really frosty night and the pitch was virtually frozen. The Albion kitman (Glen Wilson?) played a blinder having packed a set of pimple soled trainers and The Albion ran rings round their hosts, Wardy was in his element.

That was a league game and Wardy ran rings round Emylyn Hughes & George Berry. He scored a hattrick and 2 in the return fixture and only an OG prevented him getting anoth hattrick.

Brighton v Palace in the Great Freeze of '63

Palace Echo said:
After 1958 the Clubs did not meet again until the 1962-63 season following Brighton's relegation from Division Two, Palace improved upon a 2-2 home draw to win 2-1 at the Goldstone, but not even those points would have saved Brighton from another relegation. That game, which proved to Palace's last league win at the Goldstone, has an unusual story surrounding it. The coldest winter in living memory had locked the Goldstone under a sheet of ice and snow. In an effort to stage the Palace game there on 12 Jan 1963, the club hired a tar-melting machine off the council (pictured below). It thawed the pitch, but turned into a quagmire!

Thanks. I recall a great photo sequence of Wardy having turned a defender (George Berry?) inside out, leaving him spinning on his backside on the icy pitch meanwhile Wardy is sprinting away to slot home one of his goals. You can see that Wardy is wearing trainers rather than boots.

Went to a game at Cambridge in the early 90's where they left the field for half-time, with a white ball and a green pitch. Second half kicked off with an orange ball on a completely white surface. FLUMPING HELL.

The most curious thing..
The Peterborough game was FREEZING, but not as cold as Scunthorpe away the same season which froze every part of me.

Huddersfield away in the early 90's. Think it was their last season at their old Leeds Road ground. Plenty of snow that day. they closed the away end as it was covered in snow and stuck us in the seats. Won 3-0 if i remember rightly and as their fans left via the back of the closed away terrace they pelted us with snowballs and chunks of ice :lolol:

Remember helping to clear the snow off the pitch for the game against Halifax (I think) in 1963. The club put out a request over the radio for people to come along and help and loads of us turned up. Managed to get the pitch cleared with the help of some big blowing machines. Stood behind the south goal for that one.
Almost every other game had been postponed and we were on Match of the Day. And, guess what....... we lost!

Peterborough was great and loved the red kit but we stood on solid ice for the whole game and my feet were bloody freezing!
