I have never hit a woman or intend on doing so! Its just a decent debate that I may take into the pub* with me tonight and wanted a broader view on the subject matter :)

*unless of course theres women there in which case I shall be chatting them up instead ;)

Its never right to punch a woman as its equally never right for a woman to slap or punch a man. There are something like 1 in 10 relationships where the man is abused or beaten by the woman so its not funny either way.

I wouldn't delete the thread.

I'm puzzled whether people are trying to be 'clever' or 'funny' with their votes and comments.

I can see no circumstances where punching someone is the right course of action. As far as 'fighting' someone - other than a real and ongoing threat of physical attack to someone else who is unable to defend themselves, again I find it hard to justify this sort of behaviour. Then I would try (I think, because thankfully I have managed to avoid this in my 22 years of adulthood) to restrain rather than hurt someone.

yeah alright we all dont condone violence in anyway and we all want world peace blah blah blah.....its NOT gonna happen! We live in a society where violence exists day in day out and we cant excape the fact that it happens in whatever form....part of that form is what this debate is all about.

As a woman, I am bound to say you should never hit a woman whatever the circumstances. My theory is that men who are insignificant or inferior in some way have to hit women. If confronted by another man they will often shat themselves or run away. It is a cowardly act but I suppose, Crabtree, if you met a 6 ft 6 in woman you could always punch her in the knee!:D

In a nightclub out the corner of your eye you see a girl (your height/weight/whatever) giving you "the evils" you turn away until you feel a tap on the shoulder "got a problem mate?" she asks as she begins to shove you before giving you a smack on the nose. Now for arguments sake the bouncers are nowhere to be seena dnshe begins to lay into you....do you hit back? (no escape as shes cornered you aswell...shes clever! )

This happens all the time between men in clubs up and down the country before you make petty excuses!

Suggest you go to a club that is not as rough as a polar bear's arse then Crabbers, or is that the only place you have a chance of pulling? I am 42 and have never seen such behaviour, and if it happened I would restrain her as a last resort if necessary and walk away.

I always do, makes life more fun :)

Just to reiterate I have NEVER or hopefully will NEVER hit a woman, this thread is to spark up debate about something that could/does happen its not about me hating a girl I see in a pub and want a quick answer!
Seems some people dont understand the word "debate". http://www.dictionary.com - use it if you need too!

My mate got beaten up by a girl in a nightclub once. He accidently spilt his pint over this bird she was a loopy and went for him pulling him to the ground by his hair she then stamped on his nuts and kicked him in the head with her heal, he went to hospital and she went back to finishing her drink, not even thrown out of the club even though the bouncers watch it all happen.

The reaosn he got so badly injured is he wouldn't fight back. perhaps he should have?

I think the thread is one which many would deem as being unacceptable, and yet domestic violence occurs every day when both men and women can be subjected to beatings, punches, kicks. Even though many find it unacceptable it still happens and it should be discussed openly. Those who are physically violent towards their partners need help, as much as those who suffer from such violence.

I am afraid it seemed like you were justifying going around hitting 6ft 6 in women, Crabtree, and I couldn't resist having a joke with you.

Here's a real life situation that I saw the other day.

A cyclist was obstructed by a woman driver outside our offices. She blocked the cycle lane and he was a bit upset (which, as a cyclist, I can understand). The "debate" got a bit heated and the woman decided to smack the guy. The guy hit her back, although quite lightly and more out of shock and self defence and cycled off.

The woman then turned to her mate, looking astonished that someone who she had just hit had hit her back (because it was a bloke I presume) and told her mate to get back into the car. She then proceeded after the cyclist in her car.

I felt very sorry for the bloke to be honest. I don't agree with hitting women and he only really raised his hand to her. I thought she was completely to blame. Who do you think was most in the wrong? Was it okay for the guy to hit the woman in this situation - i.e. self defence?

For goodness sake - people coming to blows over something as petty as a minor incident on the road :nono: :nono: :nono:

For this incident to end up in physical violence was WRONG.

That's my point.

Yes exactly, and isn't this a discussion forum? (albeit a not particularly sensible one most of the time)

By threatening to delete this thread you are not only abusing your power by getting rid of it because you don't like it and because you can, but you are also denying people the chance of entering into the "sensible debate" that you regard so highly.

I'm not deliberately being argumentative, just making a point. :)
