I've taken advantage of working from home today and set a big beef stew off on the path to deliciousness at lunchtime... Big chunks of beef, carrot, onion, celery and tomatoes slowly bubbling away in Guinness until the meat just falls apart. Stick some dumplings in with about 20 mins to go and serve with creamy mash for a beautiful winter warmer. Winner!

The smell coming from the oven is awesome already!

Anyone else got any tasty plans for dinner ce soir? ???

Sounds lovely - very HFW.

I've got a simple prawn and rice stir fry planned. Sweetcorn, peas, mushrooms, kidney beans, prawns and rice. Very simple - very tasty. But it's not a stew is it!!

I am heading straight to a pub after work, before making my way to the King and Queen, so may just have to use some handy Burger King vouchers I found.

Could just go a bundle on a leg of lamb with rosemary, roast potatoes, peas, carrots (steamed with honey and coriander), parsnips and gravy, all washed down with a light red this Sunday.

I did a slow roast shoulder of lamb last Sunday - studded with garlic and rosemary and served with roast butternut squash, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, peas and gravy.

I'd happily have similar again this Sunday, so go for it!

Bloody hell, I'm hungry!

The Mrs loves that fact that I can cook. Not that she can't - in fact she's the 1st squeeze in a while with any nous in the kitchen... Women who can cook seem to be a rarity these days, no?

Rare as rockinghorse shit.

They did Home Economics or Domestic Servitude or whatever it's called at school, and they still f***-up making the toast.

I think you might be right, not so much a blurring but more a reversal of the gender roles...20 or 30 years ago the woman was expected to stay in the home, raise the kids and have dinner on the table when the man returned from a day in the office...that seems to have gone almost completely, now both probably work and it is the bloke who comes home and rustles up something tasty for dinner.

I have met loads of women who can't cook for toffee...some are either surprised to meet a man who enjoys cooking or that is high on their list of wants in a relationship.
