The first two lines are obviously accurate. The third, really, really isn't.

To a man, I think everyone who originally had Cummings pegged as a narcissistic, devious, dangerous oddball, now still see him as a narcissistic, devious, dangerous oddball - just with some potential to cause damage to his previous colleagues and associates, who they despise. Literally nobody to the left has suddenly decided that Dominic Cummings is a good bloke.

Going to be interesting watching some on the right over here who spent years portraying him as the villain of the piece suddenly having to do a volte face and claim they loved him all along really.

As ever with a european election I look on and hope they elect someone vaguely adult and sensible. The outcome of an election like this affects us all.

I'm quite hoping that Barnier is spouting this stuff to stitch up Le Pen, or whoever runs for the far right now by splitting the vote.

Absolutely. He had negotiating lines that he was going to stick to, and he was far more clever and capable than those on the other side of the table. It wasn't about being left or right wing.

The confrontational "we won't be the first to blink" attitude was what always infuriated me about our negotiators, and was always going to end in failure.

The fact remains that the person who went in to bat for the EU, their appointed representative, turns out to be a right-wing nut job. Adolf Hitler could espouse the virtues of a united Europe and I wouldn't want to be in any version that he was in favour of either. For those of us on the left who oppose the EU the fact that one of its major officials is a nasty right-wing neo-liberal lover of undemocratic corrupt capitalism is of zero surprise. It is after all the very essence of the EU.

I appreciate that you and many others won't share that view and so this will be my only post as a) I don't want this thread to end up as another tedious Brexit row, and b) don't want to fall foul of Bozza's new tightening-up. We know we won't agree.
