We´re in desperate need of some midfield quality.... don´t know if these are up to date but Stephen Hughes and Mark Kinsella could do something, wages permitting? Any others?

Are Stephen Hughes or Mark Kinsella monkeys if not forget them as we pay peanuts in comparison. eg that all time favourite who 'always looks for Brighton results as they are like home to me' John Robinson when he went to Cardiff rather than return here.

Michael Stewart could be a possibility after being niced screwed over by Rangers. Apparently he had a bit of an attitude at Notts forest - the man u mentality without the talent - but should have been brought back down to earth now... Saw him once for scotland and was ok. Mind, i would probably look ok if i played for scotland at the minute...

Gareth Whalley. Left-sided midfielder. Played 22 times for us last season in the First Division before being dropped because he would be due a bonus payment if he played another game.

The row that followed means he is now being frozen out of the club. He has not been included in any of our pre-season friendlies at any level, despite the fact that we are currently short of midfielders.

Whalley has been challenged to find himself a new club by Sam Hammam. He is available on a free transfer, and Crewe have apparently been sniffing around (they were his first club and he returned there for a loan spell a couple of years ago).

He's a neat and tidy central midfielder, experienced but unspectacular. He pops up with the odd goal and will do a decent enough job for somebody in this division, where he has spent most of his career (he also played in the Premiership for Bradford). He would certainly have been a part of Lennie Lawrence's squad for the coming season if it hadn't been for the bonus row.

Here's the stumbling block - he's on £6,000 a week at Cardiff.
