The link I used for AVG 8 was an upgrade link so no need to install first.

I am sure I read somewhere recently that AVG were going to drop their free version sometime this year. Anyone else heard this?

They sent a message saying no more free updates on 7.5 after 31st May so to continue using I had to upgrade to 8.0 which is free so hopefully its just 7.5 free version thats being dropped

AVG is rubbish, too many false positives! I bought NOD32, highly recommended and only about £25 for 2 years i think!

I think AVG 7.5is ending as of May 31. I have downloaded v8.0 on XP, and think it's pretty good.
But then I am a real computer illterate, and a very old one at that.
Cheers all.

Right now I am having a lot of trouble updating AVG and I have been trying for several hours, this is release 8.1, think I'll get rid and buy something.

NOD32 is the ASBOlute bollocks. Never found anything quite so quietly effective.

It seems to update its database in the background every few minutes it's so up-to-date. Hardly uses any resources. Looks neat and tidy. Plus it WILL find anything rotten on your 'pooter.

Been on it for years now and not once have I succumbed to anything nasty without a quick flash from the program telling me it's zapped a bug but I have nothing to worry about.
