Yet again you show your lack of knowledge about the Albion as he played for Man City before joining the Albion and if my memory serves me correctly he left us for Chester.
Bloody hell, so I misheard Chester as Manchester. The point was, he said he wanted to be closer to home, and that he regretted his decision.

Jesus, you squeal like a girl, you do.

How we could have done with Superfred (LEGEND) today for the goalmouth scrambles. The six yard poacher supreme! A joy to see the legend return. I remember travelling to watch the Albion at Hereford and feeling utterly distraught that when I arrived and found out that Fred was not playing and had been replaced by an unknown kid who scored after 1 minute! The start of another legend-Wardy!!

That was after Hereford had paraded a bull around the perimeter of the pitch and we had all chanted about Dixie McNeil. Our day was made after 1 minute.

The thing is that Hereford had the last laugh as they were promoted but knowing what we do now that we would go on to the 1st Division and send them out the league instead of us in 1997 we had the lastest laugh of all.

So did you see Spider score against Palace in 1974 ?
Oh God, not again. Ernest honestly believes I am as old (and as smelly) as him.

No, Ernest, I didn't see Spider score against Palace in 1974. And if I had have done, I wouldn't have remembered it. I was four at the time.

Didnt we get him from Norwich along with Alan Govier a central defender? I thought that he went Man City - Norwich - BHA -Chester. I may be wrong.

It was Steve Govier actually.

But I agree with all the sentiments about Spider - a fine player in his own right but, more especially, one who brought the best out of Wardy. It was good to see him back, even if he has filled out a bit.

What was Steve Piper like as a player?

Not bad at all.

I remember the Millwall game at the Goldstone where they all turned up in surgical masks and quite a few of my mates from school took a beating that night, and they were not hooligans by any stretch of the imagination.

Anyway we were 2-0 down and ended up winning 3-2 with Steve Piper scoring two....that was a great night at the Goldstone, full of menace but sheer brilliance.

How I miss those days ( not the menace obviously) but somehow, when I was younger than now football seemed somehow more enjoyable. Standing on the terraces....etc etc
