[Albion] Fraser Forster as a Matt Ryan replacement?

Would be decent back-up but no way he is better than Ryan. I think we would need to spend £20million+ to get an upgrade on Ryan, which we obviously won't do.

Agree. I'd rather we try to strengthen midfield and get some other options up front.

Forster was terrible at Southampton. Utterly shambolic.

'Universally loved"? The Saints fans talk of him like we talk of Wayne Henderson.

He has 14 clean sheets in season 16/17 and saints finished 8th. Hardly a disaster although I'm no expert but he was prone to the odd mistake according to wiki.

As someone else has noted his distribution may not be good enough for us.

I think he had one good season then went to pieces. He was a liability and costing them a fortune to keep on the sidelines - not even on the bench - until they shipped him out on loan to the fans’ great relief.

No. Dont think there's any real need to replace Ryan, but if its done I would prefer a keeper actually better than him. Preferably someone who didnt peak in 2009.

Maty Ryan is a top keeper and we are lucky to have him. So frustrating when people get on the back of our players when they have the smallest drop in form.

Great thread on Twitter about Ryan's performance, with stats too.

People are only talking about a Maty Ryan replacement because Potter's wilfully thrown away the Dunk-Duffy combo in front of Maty that played a major part in saving our sorry hides last season

I certainly think we lack a bit of muscle without Duffy. Our defending of corners of late has particularly concerning.

Why would that be the reason people are talking about possibly replacing Ryan?

All we can garner from this thread is that Dwayne doesn't like Matty Ryan. I suspect even if he saved a penalty down in the bottom right corner that won us the cup, he would still want some no-mark to replace him.

It's the first loss of form he's had in 3 years and it's only one really bad match he had. I'm inclined to not bin him off. I can't name more than 10 Prem keepers i'd swap him for.

Though I do agree with the point that the lack of pressure on his place isn't healthy and we should be looking to have a genuine option to bring in if Maty's form dips again next season

Has Reina been suggested as yet on this thread?

I think he's a good keeper but, our keeper coach(s) seem to ruin them somehow!

How do you figure? ??? Ben Roberts is arguably one of the best GK coaches in the country. Look what he did with Stockdale! As for Ryan, his form has slipped a bit this year because he no longer has a competitive no.2 breathing down his neck ala Tim Krul in what was undoubtedly Ryan’s best season with us.

Rubbish. He was absolutely woeful when he came back from the Asia cup.

So far so good. I expect Southampton to have a dressing down at half time and come out a different side, the boys need to stay tight and pounce like wild cats.
