Cycling back from London Bridge last night, close to midnight, near home i saw a pair of foxes trotting up the centre of the road. I saw them and jingled my bell, expecting them to scarper, but they merely looked around, recognised me as a wussy vegetarian and moved each around an extra foot apart to allow me through. I thought of a potential savaging, but i suppose these too sly rapscallions had their eyes on bigger meat. I like foxes, for all their sins.

My flat over two floors is a bit odd in that the lower ground was built after the ground. I know it's all the fashion to build underground now, but anyway.

You wouldn't notice at first, but access to the lower ground is via a ladder rather than steps.

It's a fox trap. Had the RSPCA out to fish them out. The routine is for RSPCA officer to catch fox and pass cage to me. And yes they bite obviously under quite stress full circumstances. Because of the cage she didn't get me, but I feel a tooth against my hand.

They are quite a different breed up here. Walk around in broad day light without a care in the world. What I have noticed is they disappear for months, I don't think I've heard them for over a year.

This coincides with cats walking around, but when the foxes return the cats stay indoors.

Send the hunt through towns. Foxes need to know there is a predator so they don't get too bold. People feeding them don't help.

When I lived in a town my cat used to chase the foxes down the road.

One even attacked my young cat and almost killed him so he had to spend a couple of days on a drip at the vet's. They tear their way through plastic bags of rubbish and spread it all over the pavement and road making it easier for the seagulls to scavenge. I cannot understand why so many townies think foxes are cute, unless it's because they are furry, have big eyes and shiny noses.

Quite. That's my point, but so many people don't seem to realise this and think they are cuddly. They aren't.

Apparently it's very rare for a fox to attack a cat, but we also had one kiilled by a fox when I was young. One reason why my cats are not allowed outside.

That of course is a load of rubbish. Foxes have to hunt for food, and when they come across an opportunity such as chicken pen they will kill everything they can, take what they need and then plan to back for the rest and cache the food for later. Foxes are wild animals that need to kill for food or they die.
