I personally couldn't care less who we are bigger or smaller than to be honest, but I can't go with that, there is no reasoning, you have just thrown the question to your statement back in your subsequent reply to another poster.

Reasoning? You don't have to be columbo to work out we are one of the smaller teams in the division. Just take into account average attendances over the last 20 years, league placing and honours.

In defence of FourFourTwo, the preview gets done, laid out and sent to the printers a while ago. Certainly before Birmingham's finances came to light this week.

That thought occurred to me too. Carson Yeung's current problems where not anticipated I'm sure. As far as these predictions go they're really a basis for discussion. I would be happy with 12th place but I suspect Messers Bloom and Poyet might not be. This time last season I was hoping for a play off place, like most I'm sure. The problem we have now is that great new stadium and a lot of cash on the squad has given some fans the idea that we'll promoted, bit too optimistic IMHO. Top half finish and I'll be very happy.

So where did Blackpool, Hull, Wigan, Fulham, et al... go wrong?

Come again?

...smaller teams in the division. Just take into account average attendances over the last 20 years, league placing and honours.

Is all. They all seemed to do ok? As I said, couldn't care less if we were the smallest club in the country, but those sort of stats don't make me think we'll be anything less than a very good Championship side.

I really hope we are a 'very good championship side' but you have good chance of being hugely dissapointed.

Next season will be very tough imo, we really shouldn't get carried away.

I won't be disappointed so long as we are a championship club in 2012/2013 season with a years experience behind us croydon seagull. I haven't actually made any kind of prediction whatsoever anywhere on this board at any time and you are welcome to dredge through my mainly banal posts to confirm it. I just don't think we are a bottom three small club as you suggest. In fact if you did it on percentage of attendance to stadium capacity ratio you would find that a totally different ball game. But that's not important... a good season is.

I was talking historically but anyway it's about the future now, no point having an argument over nowt. Have a friendly reach around in the form of some positive rep ;-)

Opposition player you despise: Glenn Murray. For obvious reasons.

Watford, Barnsley, Peterborough, Doncaster

I doubt there are many teams that have sold more than 18k season tickets.

Watford have only dropped out of top two divisions twice in 30 years and have spent 8 years in the top flight.

Barnsley have spent most of their history in the second tier but probably only edge us on that as their crowds are historically lower.

Obviously can't argue with Peterborough and Doncaster.

But we're only playing them next season, they're not giving out points for where you finished in 1971.

Yeah point taken but our fans talking about doing well next season is a bit premature, it's like QPR saying they have a good shout at a top ten fisnish in the prem.... not out of the question but a little unlikely.

12th would be an ok finish next season. Obviously we are aiming higher, but it will take us a while to settle down to the higher standard of football in the Championship, and sadly our squad is still top heavy with the defence in need of reinforcement. my bottom line is survival, it's what we have to acheive to move forward. As for the rest, see where we are at easter and then aim for a big finish.
