For those that didn't hear it:

Rubens Barrichello on what went wrong: "I guess the strategy... it was a good show from the team on how to lose a race today. I'm terribly upset with the way things went. I did all I had to do. I went first on the first corner and then they made me lose the race. If it is really what's going on, we're going to end up losing both championships. I feel sorry for myself, the team. To be very honest, I wish I could get on the plane and go home. I don't want to talk to anyone in the team. It will be all 'bla bla bla' and I don't want to hear that."

Couldnt argue with any of that,he was stitched up big time by his own team to give Button a extra point, which if you read the rules means brawn are guilty of match fixing and should be penalised.

Interesting theory, but I don't think Ross Brawn would sabotage a refuelling rig for the sake of one point....

Well chuffed for Webber today (despite wanting Button to win the Championship), its been a long time coming, but today he was head and shoulders above anybody. Yeah, the move at the start was a bit iffy, but I don't think warranted the drive through (not that it mattered) as people have got away with a lot worse. Also think Hamilton was a bit too agressive at the start (similar to Fuji last year), and although he was unlucky to get the puncture, I think he'd probably overcooked it for the first corner anyway.

Barichello should shut up or sod off to sportscars or something. The reason Brawn lost the race today was the three stop strategy. They could of changed it to two, but it was clear the car was eating its tyres badly (softs were graining, mediums were too cold hence the weaving on the straight by both cars). Couple that with the speed of Webber, the fuel rig problem, getting stuck behind Massa, and the fact that he can't overtake for toffee and it was game over.

Still, its shaping up to be a nail biter of a championship, hope Brawn and Button can sort something out over the next few races.

Brawn are...

Interesting that you are obviously a big fan of Formula One, but happy to deride Olympic events as being dull and 'pointless sports in a park', simply a pastime.

Not many people would be able to vault themselves 5 metres in the air, but I daresay most of us would be able to complete 70 laps of a track. :D

Well to be fair, I very much doubt most of us could get an F1 car round the first corner, let alone complete 70 laps:lolol:

I just see 90% of olympic events as tedious GAMES, not SPORTS. Things like archery, swimming, gymnastics, canoeing, horse riding, rowing - who the hell wants to watch this crap? If these are proper sports then why does nobody give a shit about any of them for the 3 years 11 months and 2 weeks that the Olympics aren't on? They're basically pastimes that ANY of us could do. Not skilled crafts that require professionals. Ok, olympians put a lot of effort in blah blah blah, and that's why they're better at hitting a shuttlecock than you or I am, but at the end of the day noone gives a f*** about it. F1 on the other hand, now that's top-quality sporting competition with the very best professionals in the world giving it all they've got in the finest machinery man can make. Give me that over some teacher from Liverpool riding a bike.

I was using my (dearly departed) Vauxhall Corsa as an example. I wouldn't even fit in a F1 car, let alone trust myself to steer it round the track.

I don't agree with you. There are plenty of fans that watch track and field or cycling, rowing and so on... more than once every four years. The Olympics is about people putting their bodies on the line. Training in every spare hour to compete with the best. Obviously there are some events that deserve deriding, such as Ten-pin bowling (although thankfully, that is only a Commonwealth Games pursuit). The Olympics is about human endeavour. Blood, sweat and glory.

Steve Redgrave, Michael Johnson, Steve Daley, Michael Phelps, Usain Bolt, Carl Lewis, Nadia Comaneci, Jan Zelensky, Sergei Bubka, Eric the Eel and so on deserve far more credit than you are willing to give them.

Eric the Eel:lolol:

My problem isn't with the athletes. They obviously work very hard and are amazingly disciplined to do what they do. My point is that, apart from a very small band of athletics fans, noone gives a shit about any of the games they play. So why does the Olympics get hyped up so much? To me, it's just a festival of pub games and dreary activities. Noone enjoys these activities really, so why is everyone so desperate to pay £200 to go and watch them?

The reason why one might think that no-one gives a shit, other than a small band, is because we don't often see the sports on TV. Why? They don't have the same appeal as something like football, advertisers are not interested and it is not worth the trouble of the TV companies to go out of their way to bid for them. That should not be used as a measure of popularity. It is just economic sense. There are plenty of disciplines, within the Olympics, that attract large followings. Cycling, Rowing, Marathons, Sprinting and so on.

I am obviously not going to sway you and it is all about personal opinions (which goes without saying), but I do think you are wide of the mark.

Why would someone be willing to pay £100+ (including travel and beer) to watch Sussex play at Lords, when you can see them for a fraction of the price at Hove or watch them for free on Sky? The Olympics is the World Cup of Athletics. Every athlete wants to win gold. That is the aim. That is why they live, sleep and eat training (I am not sure how that works).

Passion is what it is all about. We might not have been at the arse end of League One last season, if our manager or team had shown the same amount of passion and dedication as someone like Derek Redmond...

Because the majority of the sports at the olympics allow people from even the poorest of countires to rise up and be a world champions.

F1 is an elitist event/sport and as such so many of the people that attend F1 meetings couldn't give a shit about who wins the race, it's about being seen there.
