Well we did really didn't we? Whatever RHB decides if we'd have said "No you can't talk to Surrey" we'd have had a pissed-off player which wouldn't have been good for dressing room morale. It's US who've played things by the book. Surrey may have acted legally in a professional sense but it still leaves a nasty taste. It's like your former best mate nicking your girlfriend - not illegal and he's got to look after #1 but no pleasant all the same.
Some might, I don't know RHB so I don't know into which camp he'd fall. Maybe they knew he WOULD be bitter which is why they let him talk to Surrey? Anyway I think it sends the right signals to the other members of the squad which is why I think Sussex did the right thing - tell RHB how much they want him but let him talk to Surrey anyway.
