Don't forget that there wasn't the money in the game back then. Ok, it was still a lot better then what most earn today but it's all reletive. The football career is fairly short and many old pros have 20-30 working years left in them. Sometimes, a nice, quiet little job just paying them beer money is all that's needed to keep you busy

I was going to post about Paul Madely, former Leeds and England player of the Revie era, who 'had a DIY paint shop'. When I checked my facts, however, I found this:

"After retiring Madeley invested in a shop in Leeds selling sports goods and worked for his family's DIY business. He and his brothers sold this business for £27 million in 1987"

Rod Thomas (the 70s welsh fullback) used to be employed as a chauffeur by a software house. He had great football stories for long journeys, particularly for someone of my age.

Split up in the late 90's when his career was winding down and he was playing for Aldershot.

God. This is making me feel even more tearful for Neil Webb.

That doesn't count as a bit crap in my book. Most football fans drone on negatively about England or their club side for free; former footballers get to do it to a national audience and get paid for it.

Good point, well made.

Playing snooker
David Cameron made 17 appearance for Brighton and Hove Albion in 1999/2000, and then went on to become Prime Minister.

Funny old game.

i assume a 'crap job' is one which either pays poorly or is in anyway degrading....

However, surely there will be many ex pros who have no wish to be a big time Charlie or run their own business. A working life without stress, targets or responsibilities, along with a bit of extra cash to supplement my already established financial portfolio sounds the antithesis of crap.....

I wish I hadn't used the term crap job actually. I don't wish to demean anyone or anything. My point, clumsily made, is that it's a real turn of events for someone who reached such giddy heights in a job many dream about to now doing something so humdrum. I'll stop digging.

Stuart Ripley is a Solicitor, any solicitors able to comment on whether that is a crap job or not?
Gary Nelson was with the PFA, anyone know what he is doing now. A legendary goal scorer who (in my view) doesn't seem to get mentioned very much.
Inigo Calderon. Biding time to when he is World President overseeing an era of peace, prosperity and undertstanding.

Can he run for UK PM? Corbyn for 5 years before handing over to Calderon? This has to happen.
