I've read them all and they definitely got worse; the first couple bought enough equity with me to make me want to carry on trudging through the later books. I genuinely now believe that George RR Martin is going absolutely nowhere with it all. As with so many other targets, South Park absolutely nailed him.

I have to agree with that to a certain extent.

Whilst I think the most recent book was almost as good as the first, there was a notable drop in momentum preceding it.

I'll have faith as long as he sticks to original 7 book plan, anything after that and I'd have to question whether there really was ever an over-arching plan...(other than schlongs and dragon)

GRRM has said from here on in (The Winds Of Winter and A Dream Of Spring), things start to coalesce together and become rather more action-packed.

The number of locations and characters will start to shrink, and by the end of ADOS there will be a final outcome to it all that leaves no room for further books or anything else.

Having said that, I'll definitely continue with them now (if they ever materialise).

Sounds good to me, I actually re-read them all not too long ago and by the start of book 5 I was considering creating a wall chart to remember who everyone was.

I sincerely hope so. But even if he does, I reckon the last few books could have been condensed significantly and would have been all the better for it.

I would definitely be a Martell if I lived in Westeros. That weather in Dorne would be right up my alley.

At his current rate of production there is no way Martin is going to make it to 7 books. The last two books have taken 5 years and 6 years respectively, meaning we cannot expect book 7 until 2023 when Martin will be 74!

Also, originally it was supposed to be a trilogy, then four books, then six books, now seven! When you consider that two of those 'books' (3 and 5) are actually two books over 500 pages long, I hold little hope that this series will ever be finished, certainly not by Martin himself. Especially, if you consider how far the story has been advanced in the last two books. Personally having read all the books thus far I have become frustrated with Martin's go slow. His willingness to kill off every main character which I felt was good and brave at the beginning has now gone way too far.

I think Dorne would be a little on the hot side for me.

I've always thought the Vale of Arryn would be quite a nice place to live - pleasant, temperate and fairly peaceful.

So you think he's going to do a Robert Jordan/Wheel of Time (which I'm currently working through, no spoilers please anyone) and cark it before finishing them? I have to admit, it has crossed my mind that it might have been his cunning plan all along, they'd end up being the unfinished series, pushing them further into cult status.

Afraid so, he does not look in the best of health does he? Though apparently he has told the producers of the show how he expects it to end.

On Wheel of Time, how far have you got? I have finished book 8 but have rather slowed down, sped through the first 4 but a fourteen book series is rather a lot to read consecutively, especially as it meanders a lot between books 7 and 10. There is only so many times you can read about Nynaeve tugging her braid before you start to get frustrated :lolol:

I will finish it though as the books start to get better again towards the end apparently.

I didn't know he'd told the producers his ending...you've now convinced me that he has a master plan to pop clogs before finishing the books. This would leave the producers to do what they could with his ending and if it's great, happy days, if it sucks...well, he didn't write it, so is blameless...good lad.

I got up to book 8 a few years ago then got distracted by other authors (Brent Weeks, Joe Abercrombie and Robin Hobb to name a few) so forgot about them. Am now re-reading book 3, intend to steamroll through the lot of them...it's also made me remember how much I preferred Perrin compared to all the other characters.

Just a little bit confusing that.

"I read all the books and they're crap and useless and they have no idea where they're going."

*brb watching the show* ???
