Hmm, wonder if anyone had a bet on that?

I'd be well pissed off if I had a first goalscorer bet

Very well said.
Personally I think its total shite, and both clubs should be disciplined for it.

Oh, and Its actually illegal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As has just been said, somebody could have made a small fortune from this stupidity.

I appreciate the gesture - but its all wrong.

Megson was on the radio this morning explaining that the reason the keeper was 'allowed' to be the one to score the goal was in case news of what was happening leaked out and people tried to bet on the first goal scorer.

Somebody knew though didn't they!!
One quick phone call to a mate, a grand at the bookies, and a retirement fund deposited in the bank.

Far fetched - I agree, but perfectly possible.

Anybody who actually did place a bet on first goalscorer should at least be entitled to their money back.
Preferably with the clubs funding it.

I thought it was a brilliant gesture.

Tony, i agree with you about the betting, however i think that the gesture means more than the money involved.

If I had bet on what turned out to be the SECOND goalscorer in that game, then f*** refunds. If that bookie didn;t pay out on it, they would never have the pleasure of my business again.

And Id probably torch the place.

Why? Since when was football set up to function as the Bookies' bitch?

If someone gets the hump with a bookie for him not coughing up, take it up with the bookie, not the magnanimous football gesture.
