The best P & R I have seen is at Ipswich where they have four in each side of the city that runs from 7.00am to 7pm 7 days a week and costs, at the time I used it. £2 per car per day or £10 per week or £30 per month to encourage workers to use it to get from the neighbouring villages to the outskirts of Ipswich and then get into the centre to work. They also put the parking at about £4 per hour with no long term parking to encourage use of the P & R. Absolutely brilliant. I will not use Brightons as it is too expensive for a family in a car or even man and wife and I do not believe that it offers VFM..

I was born a stones throw away from Withdean stadium and was brought up there. Can anyone confirm whether there was a large fire at some point? My folks don't seem to remember, but I am positive this was the case.



I can confirm there was a fire at Withdean circa summer 1983. There was a Civil Servants (I was working for the DHSS) athletics event for London and the South East, it was a baking hot day, as I remember and the pole vault landing mat caught fire and 2 fire engines turned up to put it out.

Agree BG. Used to live in Suffolk and Ipswich, Norwich and Cambridge all have excellent P & R schemes. However they are blessed by being surrounded by rather flat land unlike Brighton which has the sea and the downs. However I do think that P & R sites are needed East, West and North of Brighton.
