Watchin the boats go by
Just been down a pub in Eastbourne and they've got some sort of foreign (barman said Greek I think) satellite system which gets them a whole load of channels, including Arab ones which show Saturday 3pm footy! I WANT ONE!

Apparently there's some loophole in the law preventing making it legal and Sky tried sueing some landlord and lost. Anyone know how to get such a thing and how much it costs? ???

We don't have Greek TV but we do have Scandanavian Satellite.

Ken Bates sold the rights to our home games to Viasat so we bought the gear to watch that.

We have a tri1.2 dish to pick up the Nordic Beam.

They show a LOT of premiership football on various other bizarre channels and lots of interesting pornography.

As for the cost, I am not sure since it was Paddy's domain. I will ask him though.

We used a satellite engineer we found on satellites.co.uk who came and gave a us a quote told us exactly what we would need etc and hooked us up with a website where we ordered all the kit and then he came and installed it. They are a good bunch on that forum, will you exactly what beams you will be able to pick up and what size dish to get good quality etc.

Greek would be Nova (IIRC)

Foreign satellite is:

1: Horrifically expensive
2: Requires a MASSIVE dish (snap on the size Starry, I've a 1.1 Gibertini - although I'd need a 1.3 or bigger for Sirius Nordic in Dublin)
3: For the non-major packages, the cards can be very very hard to get, may get turned off at any time, and you'll have no comeback.

If you're willing to deal with the three points above, and are fairly technical, PM me for more info. I've even see a non-Sky Albion match once, for free, on the backlink for Sky - they forgot to encrypt it! :clap2:

Edit - or not snap on the dish size, dammit, you've got a bigger one than me :(

1.1 is 110CM diameter - its f***ing HUGE and in the UK, requires planning permission. In theory.... you'll get caught in a housing estate generally, but in the country or on the roof of a pub or bookies, no bother.

To be honest MYOB I don't really know what I am talking about, but I know the size since I had an email in the inbox about it still! It's very much Paddy's thing and I would have spent the money on carpet or curtains or something useful. We are out in the countryside and never, uhm, got planning for the dish, but yes it is huge and ugly. It's pretty well hidden though, is on the back of our garage sort of to the side of the house.

We get a pretty decent signal and picture here, I watch some of the random Norwegian cookery shows, but I know friends of ours about 20 miles away just couldn't pick up the beam no matter what and wasted a stack of money on it.

Yeah, its very, very, very weak - a small bush in the way and you'll not get it.

On Sirius its the BSS Europe beam I'm most interested in - has the cable backlink for one of the Irish channels I don't get any other way.

BTW, make sure your box has English set as primary language and a lot of the random Norwegian/Swedish/Estonia shows on Viasat suddenly make a lot more sense ;)
