I tend to disagree about Barry, who I don't think was fully fit, and Lampard, who scorced a stunning goal yesterday :dunce:

I worry about our aparent lack of centrebacks beyond Terry and Ferdinand.

Possibly true about Barry, but I was genuinely surprised to read his name in the paper this morning, because I could not remember him touching the ball or being mentioned.

The England players that shouldn't be part of the national side anymore

Terry
Barry
Upson
Heskey (much as I love him)
Gerrard
Lampard

Terry should stay and be given the captain's armband back, he is the best centre back we have. Gerrard and Lampard are two of the best midfielders in the world but they like to play in the same position so they cannot play for the same team at the same time.

Others to go should include:
Shaun Wright-Phillips
James
Green
Carragher

Terry MUST go!

First tried to sow revolution in the ranks

Then went totally AWOL yesterday... Upson made mistakes trying to cover for Terry. How an earth he misjudged the flight of the kick for the first goal is beyond me. Has been the same since the scandal broke. Needs to sort his head out so time in the wilderness methinks.

At the last world cup we were considered to be blessed with the amount of centrebacks we had:
Ferdinand
Terry
Campbell
Brown
Carragher
King
Upson.

Also similarly we looked sorted in goal with a number of reasonable keepers:
Robinson
James
Kirkland
Carson
Green

I assume this is a wind-up. He is probably the worst defender we have and was easily the worst player on the pitch yesterday. His defending is bad (he was out of position for at least 3 of the goals), he is very slow. He may have some qualities, but I sincerely hope he never gets in the team again.

We need a younger team with some experience sprinkled in, we must have had one of the top 3 (average age) oldest squads in the tournament and we lumbered around like it too.

We need Owen Hargreaves to get fit, build the midfield around him. Then it is time for the younger generation to be assembled and used for the 2012 qualifying campaign

Maybe players Joe Hart, Micah Richards, Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshire, Jack Rodwell, Victor Moses, Jonjo Shelvey etc can be mixed in with the likes of Rooney, Gerrard, Milner, Lennon, Ashley Cole

I'm with you on this one. He is good at heading - that's it. He does well for Chelsea for 2 reasons... the ball is usually at the other end of the pitch, and Chelsea play two holding midfielders.

I would wave goodbye to everyone I think will be too old in 4 years time, and accept we must use the next capaign to build a new team rather than continuing to use players that I know are unable to perform at tournament level.

So it's goodbye to:
James, Terry, Rio, King, Upson, Barry, Gerrard, Lampard, Joe Cole, Crouch, Heskey.

We must accept that everyone bandies the "World Class" tag FAR too easily, and when they appear on the World stage, that is when you show whether you are World Class or not. This crop have never come close to winning, or even making a Final. Time to move on.

At the Euros in 2012, once Postman Pat has gone, I am hopeful of our team looking something like this:

...........................................Hart...........................................
Johnson......................Terry.............Dawson.................Cole.....

................................Rodwell............Hargreavs......................

Wilshiere.............................Gerrard...........................Johnson..

...................................Rooney.........................................

1) Definitely time to get rid of Gerrard. So so tired of seeing the hollywood cross diagonal ball instead of the simple keep-ball pass or the occasional killer pass into a striker's path running into one of the channels between full back and centre back.
2) Upson. Not good enough.
3) Terry. Get rid. Although he is not world class, he is nevertheless one of the better centre halves in this country. However, his conduct makes him a total liability.

I'd give the rest the benefit of the doubt.

A bit of an overreaction as always. Terry,Barry,Lampard and Gerrard still have a part to play up to and including the next world cup.
I think that James, Carragher, Heskey, Crouch ? have had their day - I also think that we have to ditch one of lampard or gerrard from the starting line up, But we can't totally ditch the experience that they have.
I am hoping that after 50 or so games Capello/new manager realises that 4-4-2 is not the answer or at least has some flexibility.

I don't think I was over the top. Terry should defintely be out. Lampard and Gerrard I am less certain about - but the ridigity of the formation is not bringing out the best in either. Lampard is 32 now, Gerrard 30. Whether you phase out FL or drop him immediately is up for debate, but he won't be around in 4 years. If he played for England like he does for Chelea, I would keep him around for 2 years at least, but he doesn't so we're not losing much. As for Gerrard, I don't know if his bad season is the sign of a downward slope or a one-off. He could do a job in 2 years (IMO only if the system changes), but probably not 4.

I can certainly see the merit in dropping both now to bring others through and give them time.

I didn't realise Lampard is 32 - I agree probably time to drop him then, but we can't ditch Gerrard at the same time. Terry had a dreadful game, people don't like him - but you have to have some experience at the back. We still need to qualify for the Euros, blend in the younger players so they get an opportunity to play in a tournament and aim for the next world cup.
