itv have exclusive rights to one game, this week its Man Utd..Thats why the Chelsea game is on Sky and not itv2 or 4 or whatever.

ITV have the television rights, surely not the radio rights? Talksport and 5live have both got commentary of the Chelsea game, odd
This really gets me, most of us are lucky with TV, Sky etc, but what about the poor old sod with just a radio and a mug of tea ... what's he to do?

Most other broadcasters wouldn't say that, in fact they wouldn't draw attention to it in any way that they WEREN'T broadcasting live from the venue. I suspect it's the BBC's own slightly pompous way of saying: 'We didn't bid enough'.

In around 2001 ITV Champions League day got moved from Wednesday's to Tuesdays (apart from the final).
I notice tonight it's back on Wednesdays again.

I'd imagine the rights ITV negotiated stated the BBC wasn't allowed to broadcast the game on the radio.
The radio rights wouldn't have been that expensive, but if the television rights state they are exclusive in sound and vision there is very little the BBC could do.
Television rights are becoming more and more complicated, notice the holes in the Iplayer / SkyPlayer online schedules particularly with American programmes.
The Yanks don't really understand why a broadcaster would put their stuff online without trying to charge more for it. They are completly bemused by IPlayer which you don't even need a television licence to view (at the moment) because it isn't live.

In a way, but the BBC being the BBC would have felt that it was completely the proper thing to do to tell the viewers they couldn't do something listeners would have expected.
I doubt it's a money issue as posted above.

itv2+1 used to list repeats of what was on itv2, but some shows had 'due to legal reasons we cannot show this program..;

Conversely, iPlayer BBC content can't be played over here, because someday BBC America might run it. I missed the recent "Coast" episode that featured Brighton, for example.
