Years ago i worked at a BMW specialist 2nd hand parts etc......some bloke who played the stock market needed a hobby and his was taking Triumph Stag's and the like and converting them to take certain parts of the drive train from BMW's.....

Read limited slip diff's and suspension and the like,one of the Triumphs even had a BMW 3.2 M3 Evo engine fitted.......

My dream car would be a TR4A. A few years ago I came into a little bit of money, and I thought, maybe I could splash out a few thousand on one - it would be likely to hold its value pretty well, so I could enjoy it for a year or two and then get my money back.
Then I went on the internet and saw the price of TR4As - about £30K! End of dream!

Such a shame that bodywork in those days was so prone to rust and shame they can't recreate some of those designs with modern technology.

Not possible, sadly. Modern safety features that have to be built into new cars would change their appearance to the extent that they wouldn't be the same thing at all really - see the new minis, beetles and Fiat 500s.

Wow! (Apart from the TR7, which was at best hideous).

Not just hideous - it was possibly the world's worst rally car. Seem to remember that they ran these in the rally events to try and promote them as a serious sports car. They were fine on tarmac but not so great on gravel and, due to the shape of the nose, had a habit of stalling whenever they went through large puddles as the engine couldn't cope with the influx of water.

My mum had a spitfire, I remember it having an overdrive button on the gear stick and also being able to somehow get me and my 3 older brothers in it!
Eldest brother in the passenger seat, me in his footwell and the other two sitting sideways in that space behind the 2 seats!

My first classic car was a red Vitesse Mk1 1600 convertible with overdrive. Absolutely loved it but had to sell to fund deposit for my first house (in 1986) - TGH 444F was the reg. Easy to work on but nearly poo'd my pants when I first jacked the rear wheels off the ground and wondered how they would ever go straight back down again!
