Now that I stop and think about it, you're right, 16GB isn't all that bad really! Thing is, I reckon the technophiles who are gonna want one most are the people who have 80GB iPods already full to bursting. I know my 20GB is getting there, and that's not a video one.

16GB was seen as f*** all FIVE YEARS AGO. Most peoples music collections go well over 20GB these days.

You say that, and I'm agree that a huge number of music lovers have way over that, but you only have so see how many players are out there with way less than 16GB. The market is huge for 2GB-8GB players. Many people are happy just to load up what they want each time rather than have everything they own with them at all times.

The Touch is going to sell shitloads becuase for huge numbers of people, 16GB is more than enough. And anyway, I'm sure they'll be rereleasing it in 6 months with double the HD.

As much as I feel the 8/16gb versions are inadequate, your line above is complete shit.

The 2nd generation iPod came out 5 years ago and was available in 10 and 20gb variants. Simply, 16gb most certainly was not 'f*** all (for an mp3 player) five years ago'.

Is there any particular reason they've capped it at 16Gb? Seem a wee bit silly to me...

Yes the memory is FLASH based rather than a disk drive, any bigger than 16Gb would make it far to expensive for the 'average' consumer

Yes, and at the time the competition had 40GB players, and I believe Archos had a 60GB unit, with a colour screen (the iPod was green/grey 'black and white' at the time). Apple are, as always, behind the times.

Redland - Flash isn't -that- expensive; Apple are just protecting their obscene profit margins

160GB will be $350.

YES! SWEET! Looks just like the iPhone, but it's an iPod! Awesome. iPod touch. This is why I came here, folks!

Looks the same, same size screen, thinner--8mm thin. Awesome. Steve says: one of the 7 wonders of the world. Multitouch interface...

So, it's exactly what we wanted: an iPhone with no phone. Lots of empty space on the screen for new icons. There's more: It has an antenna! WiFi! 802.11 b/g. Nice!

Full Google and Yahoo search built-in. So, the iPod touch has video, music, photo, internet with WiFi...and...YouTube, just like iPhone. Wow!

Very impressive. Looks f***ing heavy mind.

There ain't to many (well none really) companies offering 160Gb portable music devices at this current time !

32Gb of NAND FLASH costs about $500 right now, call me tight but for an extra 16Gb thats a tidy price increase on your device
