personally i really like mean machine,
escape to victory is ok, but full of footballers who can't act and actors who can't play football

And in the case of Sylvester Stallone, actors who can't act.

'Escape to Victory' is complete and total rubbish - however it may well be the best fictional football film as all the others mentioned are rubbish too. 'Goal' (film about the 1966 World Cup) IS the best, but as it consists entirely of clips almost like aq newsreel I don't suppose it counts.

Why can't somebody do a decent football film? I suppose in the same way we can't make 'Road' movies - the tradition of great British 'Road' movies begins and ends with 'Summer Holiday' and 'Genevive'. I think the Brighton story would be good, but if we want it made we'd have to settle for Yanks playing Dick Knight and Micky Adams - although Archer, Stanley and Bellotti would all be British.

I like Mean Machine and Mike Bassatt England Manager there's some funny moments in that, I thought he was amusing when playing Argentina he makes that maradona run then hits the bar and handballs it in

I Also like Bend like Beckham but thats mainly because Keira Knightley's in it

I have a docu_film on video made about the 1990 World cup by a fan following his trials and tribulations as he supports England in Italy. It was originally shown on Channel 4 and is absolutley superb as it came the closest at that time to what it was really like to follow Engalnd abroad. It included some truly depressing scenes of football hooliganism but mainly it was about the joy and cameradierie of supporting your team with like minded friends. It also highlighted fact that going abroad in these situations allows you to meet the locals, their culture and meet with supporters of all nationalities.
Subsequently 10 years later I made it out to Euro 2000 and had one of the greatest football holidays ever following Denmark, France and Romania in my England shirt. . Regretting fact that I cant make it to Portugal as I write.
Anyway it is/was a great film - pity they are unlikely to show a repeat.

Pride of place in my collection is a movie called Brighton 1 Bristol City 0

It starts off quite quietly but the ending is absolutely fantastic. It stars a load of blokes in striped shirts who are supported by around 30,000 extras who have paid for the privilege of being involved in the production. I don't normally get emotional when I'm watching films but the ending of this one brings a tear to my eye.

There is a prequel, called Albion 1 Swindon 2 which also has an unbelievable ending.

These two are my favourites at the moment

:lolol: :lolol:

Funny that. I have a copy too and rate it very highly
