In Jo'burg 1975. Outside sit in the car and dial up world service on the radio, very feint , crackly reception, for the scores.
No good looking for Television news, they didn't have Television in South Africa until the following year. :hilton:

Teletex (or Ceefax?) all the way. One was page 302 for football. What was the other channel? Just used to have the scores looping, and it ALWAYS opened up on the page after the one you wanted. Still, high excitement when it seems to hang on page 2 of 4, when you knew that your score was on page 3 of 4.

Then the Argus for match reports & news.

Some of us just went to the games. It was easier that way.

and remember that football wasn't the 24 hour a day 7 day a weeek 365 days a year media obsession that it is now.

It was just confined to the back pages and saturday afternoons

The main way I had of getting info was the argus, seagull scene on a Thursday and used to be able to pick up a copy with a match report at Haywards Heath on the way home after Saturday games. Always back to the dog track car park in time for sports report after games. That was it, the rest of the time we had a life!

Although of course we did have THIS every other week...........................
