Parsnips, the cruellest of all the vegetables. As a child, my mum would cut parsnips into chip shapes. So there was I expecting chips but getting parsnips instead. Still can't stand the taste or sight of them.

Someone got there before me. My daughter had a French exchange student a few years ago, and we were out in a pub truing to describe what parsnips were on the menu, and none of us could come up with the word. When we got home and looked it up, she said. "Oh yes, we feed them to the pigs". Best place for them.
