Whats the verdict ? I'm a total tech ADDICT and I have to say...I love em, although they do seem to be a bit marmite.

I've just finished a 3 year contract on a Samsung Z Flip 3. Setting it in front of me with it semi-tilted so I can scroll and read shit rather than holding it, or having it laid flat on the table, just worked brilliantly. BIG fan of the multi-selfie too, where you set it up half-flipped, gather your goonsquad, raise a palm to the screen and it does a 3s countdown before the snap. Spot on. Used that a LOT. Alien technology. These are a good phone.

Aaaanyway. I've now migrated to a Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. This little SLUT is a normal-sized phone on the outside, but then folds out like a book, to double-up into a tablet-sized screen. I've used it today with my SkyGo app to watch the footerage (Man U, LOL), but its equally great with YouTube, disgusting filth, and I can frig about with a couple of apps on each side to read them simultaneously. I had my betting app on one side, the the BBC league tables on the other, scrolling around and pissing about to get my acca on, like I was in Minority Report, or somefing. It just bloody works.

Anyone else gone all BENT with their phone ?

I'd love to get a folding phone but it's a bit too rich for my blood. I would also be too worried about a bit of pocket grit getting between the two middle screens and scratching them to shit.

Also I'm a habitual fiddler so I would break the hinge in weeks because I would be continually opening and closing it in my pocket or absent mindedly while watching TV.

Make one for under a grand and I would think about it.

After 10+ years of defiantly railing against iPhones (Hah! Why spend a thousand quid on a phone when I rarely make phone calls?), this year I finally got fed up with Android and bought an iPhone 15 Pro Max. What a beaut. I’m already invested in Apple with an iPad and MacBook, and I can’t get over the pleasure of the iPhone. So nuts to Pixels and clam phones. iPhones all the way from now on.

I had the Samsung Fold. After a year the WiFi wouldn't turn on, then later Bluetooth. It turns out some of the important components were built in the fold itself and broke very easily. There have been hundreds of complaints. Samsung wouldn't fix it under warranty so I was forced to buy a new phone.

I used to love Samsung, but will never buy anything from them again

Nah.

Sticking with the worst one imaginable so I feel like using it as little as possible. I already have all the tools I need to pass time until death and don't need to make it go any faster or be any more pointless.

The 2015 consumer rights act says that goods should be fit for purpose and of suitable quality. A manufacturers warranty can give more cover/service but it cannot override it.
I had an argument with Currys over a Samsung tellybox that developed a fault after 15 months and they trier to wriggle out of it, claiming it was out of warranty; took the threat of court action (nowhere near as difficult as people think and no need for a solicitor) to get them to repair it.

…..is the correct answer.

I really see no point at all in a folding phone. Novelty piffle.

Until September 2026, when Apple is rumoured to be bringing out one, and at that point, I'll clearly be in.

Essentially that will be the start of the foldable phone era, despite some naysayers saying things like "Android has had foldable phones for a gazillion years now".

Just far enough away from LDC
Folding phones have 2 smaller batteries rather than 1 larger one. That means the run time is lower. Also they are susceptible to cracks along the fold impacting the touch screen.

Mrs ROSM insisted on one and after 18months it was unusable. So not for me Clive

Unfortunately, I’m an iPhone user.

I’ve tried cheating on it with cheaper models, but aside from the odd thrill here and there, I always go home to my favourite.

Aaaanyway. I've now migrated to a Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
Somebody got decent presents for Xmas.
Genuinely all I got was a flat piece of wood with "Bald man's hairbrush" printed on one side.
And I've got a full head of hair.

My Ex has the Pixel 9 fold phone and only last week it shit the bed in an Internet familiar fashion. She opened it and the "hinge" part of the internal screen appeared black and rendered that screen unusable.
Luckily she can use the external screen but she's going to try to get it replaced under warranty. It's a common issue.
She likes its versatility but finds it heavy.

I find there's a lot of advertising going on for Samsung on here. Perhaps Apple might introduce a folding phone to compete with Samsung. I have a Samsung and I find it easier than an Apple. Perhaps others may prefer another brand other than Samsung or Apple. I know that others are of the Apple variety and don't use Samsung.
Anyway I'm off to charge my Samsung, as its low on batt.......
