I think they possibility wanted to but the govnt were unwilling to provide quarantine exemptions for UEFAs 3000 affiliates (guests, sponsors, delegates etc).

This is the real issue..............correct move by the Govnt IMO but was always likely to mean UEFA finding somewhere else to accommodate the 'important' people. Utterly daft to have 7,000+ people travelling internationally to a neutral country to watch two teams play who could meet at a neutral ground within 2 hours of their own. Could have had a bigger number of fans attending here too.

Santiago de Compostela airport (Spain) is only a couple of hours drive from Porto (Portugal, obviously). Flight prices reasonable for the dates. Not researched the hoop-jumping required tho, has to be said

Or do as I did for the Nations League - fly to Lisbon, couple of days there and then train to Porto.

This.
I would also recommend a few days in between. Aveiro is a beautiful place with great beaches nearby. You could visit a few footie grounds on the way. Tondela is near Aveiro and a mid table Portuguese Premier League side. Their ground holds 5000! Aveiro itself has a swanky ground built for the Euros a decade or so ago but no-one plays there. There are lots of grounds up near Porto.

Spoiler Alert: save yourself all that money and hassle. Man City win. Aguero BLASTS the winning penalty into the bottom corner :moo:

Chelski win on pens after a bore draw 120 minutes.

Then John Terry appears from nowhere running onto the pitch wearing the current Chelski top and shorts.

Porto’s stadium is basically a bigger version of the Amex.

Loved it when our kids were pre school, we had some lovely breaks at CP Longleat and Elevden ... the accomodation costing in the low £100's.

After that, multiply the cost by 2 or 3.

CP are by no means alone, also: cottage owners in the West Country and Easyjet/BA for flights to any airport remotely near the Alps at Xmas or Feb half term. Return flights normally costing £75, can easily become £775 person!

Likewise we did it a few times, then I twigged CP in France/BElgium . . . . Even adding petrol/eurotunnel/dog/extra cheese/wine etc, it was still cheaper, and almost entirely **** free, although France have their own special variant.

Brittany Ferries are starting a route from Plymouth to Porto instead of Santander they could jump on that 30 hours.
I was not going to go away this year but Lisbon was next on my list for a city break, could do both cities, I am quite tempted as long as covid stays under control.

We never got round to doing that, but friends/family told us all about it ten plus years ago, also CP in The Netherlands.

We had great family holidays though at Longleat and Elveden, our kids loved it .... as toddlers crawling in the indoor play tunnels, later bombing down the water rapids and shoots, cycling and outdoor laser combat.

Center parcs have this business model nailed!

We had to cancel CP's holiday due to lockdown. We made do with burning £10 notes on a disposable BBQ as the kids rode around the street outside.

:lolol:

Did you also park your car a mile and a half away then wander around aimlessly for an hour looking for your house?
