My GP's secretary said that I hadn't received one as they had only had half their allocation so they'd divided their patients alphabetically and with a surname of Watts I was in the second half who didn't get one. I'm beginning to panic a little as, thirty years ago when I was actually living in Brighton I was off work for a little over two months with flu - and I've had one every year snce. And these days I've plenty of health issues to raise the ante. To complicate all of this there are apparently seven different versions of this years vaccine, used relative to age or medical condition etc. Just gets better, doesn't it?

I was fortunate, managed to get an appointment at our surgery’s jab fest a week ago. I had a time slot and in I went. Nursie then asked me if I wanted a pneumonia injection as well, highly recommended she added. I said yes and as she was about to unleash the lance of pain informed me that I might suffer a reaction over the following 48 hours. Me and reactions don’t go. Oh, nothing serious, she says, you’ll just feel a little dicky.

So, for 48 hours I waited for Mr.Dicky to turn up and to my surprise he didn’t and all was well. Thank you nursie, and THANK YOU NHS!

I had the pneumonia jab a couple of years ago, and was quite worried about it, because I do get a reaction to flu jabs. I had no reason to worry as there was no reaction at all.
Btw, that jab only covers bacterial pneumonia as there isn’t a vaccine for viral pneumonia.

If I end up in hospital due to the flu aren't the odds on catching Covid increased?

I was directly addressing the misconception that the flu jab protects against covid by generating an immunity.

The answer to your question is yes, probably. I am a strong advocate of the flu jab.

I was stopped by a very young policeman for going through an amber light, once. He asked me what an amber light means. I said 'prepare to stop'. He said 'No, it means stop, so its like a red light. So you went through a red light'.

Bottom line, yes, a flu jab will protect you against Covid. As will exercise and a good diet.

.

All good news on this thread so sorry for bucking the trend..

Front (ish) line worker 55 with heart issues...

Phoned GP ( Saltdean St, Lukes) and told no chance, only for cancer and copd patients...

So much for the Government saying all over 50's can get a free jab

As a front line worker, doesn’t your employer ensure you are vaccinated?

Received mine last week - through my employer.

Locally, a number of GPs have arranged a flu jab drive thru. In a country park, you will be able to drive your car, arm out of the window, where a nurse/pharmacist will then give you the flu jab.

I just wonder if this is also some kind of practice for the covid jab as well. Seems like a good idea

It beggars belief that there appears to be a supply issue with the flu vaccine. On two accounts it should have anticipated. Firstly, in relation to covid it was put out there really early that catching flu and covid at the same tile could prove fatal. Hence the normal uptake of flu jabs would increase with people who might not normally bother. Secondly, the government themselves declaring that over 50's would be entitled to free jabs.

On a personal note I was lucky to get a walk in vaccine in an Eastbourne town centre pharmacy.

Finally got my flu jab today - free for over-50s at the Doctors. I don't know if it has happened elsewhere in Sussex, but the whole local surgery was given over to injections this Saturday for all the new over-50s who now get it free.

There was a really organised 2 minutes per person approach with many people vaccinated at once in the waiting room. I got the impression it was a practice run for the other vaccine when it arrives... if it is this straightforward it ought to be an easy and quick process.

(I hate injections, but I know vaccination is the better idea, so I go through with it.)
