Jerusalem should be England’s sporting anthem

GSTK is the UK anthem, not the English one

Jerusalem as a tune with different words. Blake wrote it as a parody.

FOS was written in the 60s, so why not have something more modern?

Jerusalem is certainly an improvement on GSTK, but, it doesn’t exactly stir the blood and get the juices flowing, does it.

When you think that Flower of Scotland was only written in the 60s it is everything you’d want in an anthem.

I used to drink in the Wee Club in Inverkething on a Sunday lunchtime back in the 70s and FOS was always sung at kicking out time.

The Dutch, French, Italian and Welsh national anthems are stunning when sung by a mass sports choir. Goosebumps even for an Englishman. I like the Irish national anthem too. All great tunes, the passion palpable.

All far, far better than a 60’s Scottish folk song adopted by the rugby team I think in 90 and latterly the football team.

I spent a lot of time in Scotland in the 70s/ early 80s and FOS was sung every where. Most boozy nights in various pubs in Scotland would end with a bad rendition of it sung by pissed up Jocks.
