I thought that was pretty cool the way they played the first half, then just the crowd singing the rest. Wouldn't mind seeing it done more often with anthems.

I dont agree with them playing that as their National Anthem is God Save The Queen until such time as they completely break away from England and stop receiving money froim Westminster. The same applies to Wales and Land of My Fathers. Although I like both songs as songs just object to them playing them as National Anthems.

We should have Land of Hope and Glory. Like we do in the Commonwealth Games.

By that logic, they shouldn't have teams at all!

NO NO NO our National Anthem is God Save The Queen andf should be used. The reason it isnt in the Commonwealth Games is because it is orshould be the National Anthem of virtually every team.

To answer ATFC they are entitled to a team because they are country governed by a seperate Rugby or Football Association. They are still part of the UK for which the NATIONAL Anthem is GSTQ.

Yeah but then they are representing that rugby/football association and not officially a country, so surely can have whatever they like?

How official are national anthems anyway?

You could put that argument to every sport whether it be Formula 1 or Olympics. Unless I am mistaken when Chris Hoy won the gold medal at the Olympics they played GSTQ.

Because he was representing GB/UK, not Scotland.

Anyways, my point was that it sounded really good.

The Queen is a krout slag anyway. Abolish the monarchy and we can have land of hope and glory.

Don't have a problem with the countries having their own anthems, but I do object to them having the American inspired style of a "celeb" singing GSTQ etc, singing it like they're on stage at the Albert Hall or something. They completely lose the crowd and it sounds cr@p. Should just be the crowd, players and a band, not Michael Ball or Karthrine sodding Jenkins!

Most people can't stand God Save The Queen, I'd more than happily see England ditch it, in all sports.

Agreed. I remember the Lions vs Argentina game in Cardiff when they were unveiling the (terrible) Power of 4. They were handing out the words in the pubs before the game and after a few beers everyone was up for giving it a go - then when it gets its first airing Catherine Jenkins turns it into an opera song, not the best way to teach it to 70,000 rugby fans.

GSTQ is rousing and when belted out at football is an amazing anthem.

NSC seems to have a problem with it but NSC has proved before it is not reflective of public opinion in England

Yeah similar to what they did today, although they played a lot more of it before leaving it to the fans.

Although doesn't work so well with GSTQ because England fans feel the need to sing the "nananana" bit before "send her...", which lowers the tone more than a bit!

West Ham is probably the best example.
