The dull part of the south coast
I can't seriously see how we can let another striker go ???

This is true, however, if you have a loose cannon in a team that’s disruptive on or off the pitch surely it’s better to be rid. I do like Andone though, thoroughly committed but he has got a nasty streak in him that costs the team dear - in the Southampton game for instance.

If this rumour is correct then I assume Potter will have covered it. He has probably seen enough of the players now to know who to select and who to move on. Knockaert and Locadia for starters, dare I say Duffy’s star is on the wane? I also wonder whether Potter considers that it’s now time to blood some of the development squad players - Connelly’s name has been mentioned.

Interesting, if not exciting, times ahead for us Albion fans I reckon.

here and there
All I'll say is that I was slightly surprised that he was still an Albion player when this season started - I expected him to be shipped out in the Summer.

That said, I'm probably more surprised at this evening's turn of events.

So we chased the guy over 2 (poss 3?) transfer windows and finally got him to join our no dickhead squad. Supposedly our recruitment team look deeply into the attitude and character of the player as part of the selection process. After all that he turns out to be a dickhead. Along with Knockhaert supposedly, and maybe Locadia.

Pretty damning really. Surely not that difficult to find out if a player is a dickhead or not.

Perfect opportunity for Percy Tau......

This news has got me wondering whether there has been positive developments with Percy Tau’s work permit behind the scenes. Otherwise I will be totalled gutted if Andone goes - look how good his finish was at Watford FFS !

BO has been incredibly slow about picking this up. Nothing in the Argus as of yet.

I’m assuming that he has had no firm response from the club.

Obviously the decision has been made that we're better a striker light than having the wrong player in the squad.

What I find interesting on this (and other threads) is the demand for blind trust/optimism/agreement with anything the management of the club is doing. We all know we have the best chairman in the country, but he shouldn't be beyond criticism and scrutiny from fans, and I am sure he wouldn't want to be either. Ashworth and Potter look like a great combination setting the footballing side of the club up, but it's early days and again - the best coaches and managers make mistakes.

That's about the size of it, sadly.

We spent more than one window chasing Andone, yet you'd only need to watch him in a couple of games to see what a short fuse he had. We spent a similar amount of time courting Ali J and yet you'd only need to watch a couple of games of him to see how he is physically ill equipped for English football with no chance that I can see of coming up to the required standards of pace and power. And we panic bought a Dutch DJ.

The fact that two of the above are now either out or seemingly on their way out, with the other apparently being retrained as a RWB but having not even made the 18 over the DJ and the nutter at the start of the season is not something I'm upset about. Potter came with a reputation for taking on "difficult" players and making them a part of a successful team. If he doesn't think he can do that with Andone and Big Jurg then it's all the better to get them off the wage bill and away from the training ground. It's the timing of it that I find odd. IMHO - and purely just an opinion - this is a recruitment team power play with squad depth being sacrificed in the name of getting rid of Winstanley's mistake players.

It also only postpones the issue for a year. Next summer Locadia, Andone and Knockaert come back as it stands. I cannot see any of them staying if we're still in the Prem so there's a big gamble going on that they'll shine in their new homes.

Whilst I understand the recruitment team are coming in for a bit of stick .... they can only buy from the pool of players we can afford.

We obviously work under a strict wage structure, so getting players that other teams aren’t after or not willing to pay more for is always going to have its hits and misses.

Exactly what I was about to post. Doesn’t add up.

.

Given his degree in leadership and emotional intelligence + experience as a football manager I suspect this is GPotts thinking

I do wish people would remember that the people that run our club are just as passionate as us, they know more about the club than us, and many of them have more to lose if the club fails than us. Believe it or not, they do actually know how many forwards we have.

Just relax, watch and enjoy.

Ah but then there would be reason for NSC to exist.

We all know much more than those fools running our club.

Don't we????

That STINKS. You'd have thought he would've got a WHIFF of the story by now... :jester:

We're never going to compete with the Man City and Liverpools of this world for players and even Wolves have a very different recuitment strategy, but it would be interesting to know if there are players who have been successful at comparable clubs who failed our data analysis. There are a couple of rumours I can remember.

Agreed.
Look on their fans forum. They would know. :)

Exactly, the pool is small...... well some on here have said we turned down chance to sign Brooks ? But other than that I can’t remember too many we’ve missed out on that have done that well elsewhere ..... Solanke hasn’t pulled up any trees yet, can’t think of many. I suppose strikers are always the one they feel they have to take a risk on as they are so difficult to find

That’s so true. But how much do we have to spend for a low risk signing?

Newcastle got Joe Linton for a reported £40m. This is a player who has some very little but has ‘potential’. A risky signing if he does not work out.

We’ve got the EPL2 player of the season and the Championship player is the season plus our record EPL goal scorer and club legend, we should be fine this season without Andone.

Odd that such a strong rumour hasn’t even been commented on by Owen. Is he in the club’s pocket?
