It's hard to convince players to join a newly promoted team to the PL as they want as close to a certainty as possible when it comes to playing in that league for the length of their contract

This is shown by the examples of players turning us (and Newcastle) down and preferring to stay put, and Tammy Abraham even picked an established club over Newcastle or us.

It's not necessarily down to wages offered, or the price of the transfer fee and the standard of player we need may just decide they don't want to come here so what can you do as a club?

But if your not prepared to pay the going rate to begin with your always going ton accused of doing it on the cheap and it's clearly backfired it had been 4.5 months

difference between us and those two clubs is that they can and most likely will sack their managers and you could see it leading to some improvement, they're not amazing teams but they've got some players there who can make a difference. If we had Benteke or Hernandez we'd be fine, but we don't.

4.5 months spent scouring spreadsheets and European leagues, led to a case of couldnt see the wood for the trees. Pace and quality up front to PL level was required on 17 April. Boro's disaster told us everything we needed to know. Apart from a few, most were calling for that back then, repeatedly.

Clubs no bigger than us - Watford, Hudd and Burnley simply got on with improving their squad deficiencies.

Wasn't the 'cluster approach' meant to prevent situations like this?

Exactly that. The problem isn't just that our current strikers are not good enough but the fact that we only have three first team strikers and one of them is injured indefinitely! I can't believe that there isn't a decent young striker in Europe that we couldn't have tempted or taken a gamble on. No striker is actually worse than a gamble even if it's going for someone that is currently playing at a lower level. If Hemed gets injured against West Brom and Murray injury takes longer than expected (which always seems to be the case in recent seasons) we are genuinely ****ed.
