Don't frighten the horses, flag-toting Britons told
LONDON, May 31 (Reuters) - Patriotic English fans who attach flags to their cars could be in trouble with the police.
Motorists in rural Hampshire have been warned their World Cup flags are frightening the horses.
"It is commendable that the nation is getting behind their football team, but I do have concerns that motorists may cause an animal to bolt and possibly cause injury to itself, its rider or innocent passers-by," said Police Constable Derek Grist.
Thousands of cars and vans across the country are sporting the English flag, often attached to the radio antenna, in the run-up to the World Cup which starts in Germany on June 9.
Grist, the local force's Equine Liaison Officer, said drivers could face assault charges if their flag flew off and struck a pedestrian or a cyclist and hurt them.
"We are not trying to be killjoys. All we ask for is a little bit of consideration," he said in a statement.

bloody horses... shouldn't be on the road anyway... they don't pay road tax!!

I have one, but as my car is only two doors, I had to put it on the passenger window. Because it means the window doesn't QUITE close entirely, I had the wind from outside breezing around my head, particularly when doing 90mph on main roads! Burn them, I say

Not too good then!

NSC has decided and I will invest the money down the pub instead, everyones a winner :drink: :drink:

I don't see what's chavvy about having an England flag waving from your car. I've got one AND 2 England sun visors in the back.

Besides, it's no good if we're going to win the World Cup and there's a load of dreary cars on the road, this isn't France.

My feelings about them are a bit like my feelings for christmas.

They're great near the time but they were appearing at the start of MAY!

Mine will be flying high very soon!

Never fancied getting one.. mainly because we lived opposite some Turks who used to reguarly do dodgy stuff most saturday nights and having seen the mood they used to get in, I quite decided that i just happened to like the windows intact on my car. Not fear, just sensibility.

But they've moved on now, and my little boy wanted a flag so who was I to argue...?

During Euro 2004, I put a flag on the car on the way down to Cornwall on holiday and it had disintegrated by the end of the journey, then England lost to Portugal. Never again. :nono:
