I think if we went up that year we would gone straight back down as squad want strong enough, the year we went up we was alot stronger and kept the core of the squad

But look where we both are now. Good things always come to those who wait!

Quite. I was so upset at the time but remember being quite pragmatic thinking we weren’t quite ready. And we weren’t.

What a fantastic coach Hughton was/is. Squad was better the following season and we turned draws into wins.

It was the morning after my stag do and I was down in Swanage at the time. Looking back it was one of the worst times of my life. All up hill from there though.

A day that started so well. Getting a cab to Brighton station driven by Glenn Murray's father in law seemed to be a bit of an omen, a few early morning sherberts on the train from Kings Cross, bumping into Bozza just outside the station and walking to the ground knowing that you were taking part in a huge event. We were magnificent as fans if you were in the away end but I doubt you could even hear us on the telly. It's the only time I've heard Boro make and noise and it was absolutely deafening. That was the point at which it went downhill.

The game - beyond disappointing at the time. The walk back to the station with fans (presumably banned hoolies who had watched it in town) offering us out everywhere, delayed train home and talking to a massively enraged Tony Bloom on Kings Cross platform who had been on the same train. I normally have a good laugh on the way back from an away game no matter what. I barely spoke after this one.

But, as others have said on this thread, it all worked out rather nicely in the end. I'd take our subsequent five years over theirs any time. We were far better equipped to go up the following season. Just a shame we messed up being actual champions.
