Those videos are incredible. He's obviously not all there and presumably his son isn't either but the culture of the USA means that it's easy for these events to keep happening and for the wrong people (in so many ways) to have easy and legal access to the weaponery of mass destruction required. The division in American culture is so stark.

This story encapsulates all that is broken about America.
Intolerance, hatred, violence, gun laws, Trumpism, drugs, religious fundamentalism, trial by (social) media.

On that last point, however shocking, dysfunctional and indirectly culpable the father is, nobody should lose sight of who pulled the trigger, over and over again.

It wasn't him.

Some background to the son on this wiki page.

Horrible upbringing by the sounds of it. The authorities had a chance to step in a possibly prevent this tragedy from happening by the looks of things, but did nothing.

Son may not have been gay but surely he had some kind of issue in order to cross the boundary into sociopathic behaviour ? Tragic as ever whatever the reasons, always two common problems in these cases, someone who's issues have not been addressed, and, who has access to firearms.

No excuse for what his son has done, but this is a cycle that has probably repeated it's self for a few generations and I would not be surprised to learn the son was abused by a family member, and one would not have far to look judging the fathers past and current attitude.
Outright hatred and violence often mask the real issues at play, denial !
Being told being homosexual or anything different is wrong by parents (son or father) and church can be very confusing and if you don't have the mental capacity to deal with that, and access to guns and rabbit warrens on the internet, it can lead to sadly what happened. America does not have the social care we have in Europe that can identify children at risk and attempt to help them, it is not perfect here, but there are systems in place starting at school. America simply does not have that in place in rural areas, because of funding and religious ideas that dictate what is taught at school, Christ there are schools in america that deny evolution, what hope has a poor, abused child got in a bible belt...

America needs to look at it's self first before throwing stones and it's weight around in the world concerning dictatorships and fundamental regimes like Iran.

Wow. Just. WOW.

I’ve been told not to judge a book by its cover but that chap looks Cro-Magnon.

We live in a world where that thing gets to walk around unchecked, let alone gets to vote.

Thank Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the wee donkey that 75% of Americans don’t own a passport.

Thanksgiving week has seen 22 people killed and 44 injured, all through the barrel of a gun.

Accordingly and sadly I'm all out of ' thoughts and prayers '. Mainly because nothing changes :(

What do people expect from an Ape? He was barely audible amongst his grunts, and was likely picking his arse too if the camera panned down. Very sad, but you can’t judge animals by the same standards we all have.

Very true. Drop the United bit, it’s just states these days. A country totally divided. Any populous country the same size is the same and always will be, especially one founded on immigration. Only reason eg China and Russia aren’t the same is because they’re dictatorships (though Russia has lost more than a few from the empire, as we know only too well this past year!)

And Wiki has, conveniently, blocked the page from being edited so I can't amend "is an American mixed martial artist...." to "is a homophobic methhead". Odd that Wiki seeks to protect homophobes.
Wiki seeks to protect against malicious edits, whatever the underlying morality...

Having lived in North America (including some time in the USA), characters like this unfortunately aren’t all that rare.

The US and Canada have a gargantuan hard drug (meth, crack, opioids) and mental health crisis going on, with VERY little being done to solve it.

Throw in the ease of gun access, totally divisive politics, huge income inequality, and a wholly fear mongering press, and you’ve got a very out of whack society.

Thank god Canada is still a long ways away from how bad it’s gotten down south.

Very sad, and worrying.

How about this survey commissioned by Forbes in 2019 about Americans on travel :

11% have never travelled beyond the state they were born in.

13% have never flown in an airplane.

40% have never gone out of the USA.

More than 50% have never owned a passport - they are not required for visiting Canada, Mexico or going on a cruise ship!

10% interviewed have no interest in travelling anywhere!

Okay, this is just a token number of points regarding American travel habits but it goes to show how frighteningly insular large swathes of the US population are.

In another video this absolute nut job said
“I praised violent behaviour early on, it gets results”

What is wrong with these people?
Then he should be imprisoned

When travelling around the US (late 90s) I met a few Americans outside of the metropolitan areas who did not know where Great Britain was or what it was. England was associated with the war and the Queen. Strangely, they nearly always thought we were Aussies. I blamed Crocodile Dundee.

Many (most imo) Canadians still don’t know what the UK, GB actually consists of.
Barely any know the difference between NI and Ireland.
Considering they’re part of the commonwealth (Canada), it’s a shame.
The number of times I’ve had to explain the very basic details very simply has been a little shocking.

As far as the US knowledge of the above, absolutlely no chance.
Half of them think we’re no longer part of Europe due to brexit.

There are quite a few Brits that think the same. I had to explain to several people on a thread that geographically we are European.
One woman argued vehemently that we left Europe, so I challenged her to say whether she was Asian, African or American now.
