That Sir, is quite a mix!
Did everybody dance?
Great thread, loved reading all these,
First gig - soup dragons at the event must have been about 1989
First : Suede at Worthing Pavilion 1994. This set the bar pretty damn high. Did any other NSChatters go?
Best: Seeing supergrass in Oxford in the week they released Alright was pretty damn special.
Worst: Depeche Mode, 02, 2009. I had been looking forward to seeing this band live for as long as I remember and was beyond excited. This led to me downing two bottles of wine before I got there. Once inside it was onto shots. Apparently I danced like crazy during first two songs then disappeared.
Next thing I knew I was standing outside the by then empty 02 at 1am wearing a t shirt. I’m guessing I got chucked out , then blacked out. It was December. The St John’s Ambulance people hoovered me up and it was when I sat in the ambulance that I realised my jacket was in the o2 with my phone and wallet. I had nothing. The venue was shut. I was still absolutely battered, freezing and the ambulance people wanted me out and took me to the hospital.
I sat in the waiting room all night trying to sober up. I was given a red blanket by a nurse and when the banks opened I wandered around Canary Wharf looking for a bank. I wondered why security guards were glaring at me or trying to move me on. I later found out those blankets were given to homeless people. I got to a Barclays, eventually they gave me access to my money. I went back to the 02. No sign of my coat, wallet, cash or phone. It took hours to get home and cost a fortune as due to public transport problems (and the state I was in) I mostly got a taxi.
Unrelated, but later that day my girlfriend dumped me.
Yeah, other than that , I only have good memories from seeing Mode at the 02.
