My dad (a Middlesbrough supporter) took me to my first match, a match which ended 1-1 and which saw Middlesbrough promoted from the old 3rd Division up to he second tier. It took more than twenty years until I went to another Albion match and became an albion supporter.
28 April 1973 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest on the last day of our single season in the old division two. Can't remember the goals but according to the record books Eddie Spearritt with a penalty and Mick Conway scored.
Don't remember who scored any goals but my first game was Jack Bertolini's testimonial. Stanley Matthews kicked off. Jimmy Greaves, Jimmy Hill, George Eastham all played. After that went to every game i could and have watched them regularly since 1964. Best goal Gerry Ryan against Man City. or Kit Napier against ?
Peter Harburn 1955/56 think it was against Coventry won 2-0
The team as I can remember
Eric Gill
Des Tennant Jim Langley
Don Bates Ken Whitfield Glen Wilson
Dennis Foreman Albert Munday
Dennis Gordon Peter Harburn Frankie Howard
think my first game was 1962, but first real goalscoring memory was a Bobby Smith goal , i think in 64 against Barrow. after that i recall a few kit napier goals. one in particular when the keeper put the ball down thinking a free kick had been blown, game appeared to stop but Kit walked up and tapped into empty net. amy oldies out there recall the goal.also remember an alan duffry screamer against bradford city. best fortnigh to be a fan was definately in 66/67 ( i think that year.) ten goals in cup versus Wisbech then two weeks later nine past southend. we.ll be lucky to get 19 more goals this season i reckon!!!
December 11 1965 so I've nearly served a 40-year stretch!
Bill Cassidy's equaliser against Shrewsbury.
Sad that so many of you only have memories of The Troubles after 95....there were vintage years in the 70s when nobody could ever have believed that a Board of Directors would intend harm to their own club....rot in Hell Stanley and Archer!!
Also corralt...could the Kit Napier goal be the diving header v Bournemouth, Boxing Day 1971 by any chance?
Joe Kinnears Testimonial BHA v Spurs......as a kid, I thought I was a Spurs fan, went along to the Goldstone (RIP) to watch Spurs and fell in love with The Albion. Never looked back. Come on you Super Seagulls
