So there it is - October 22nd and I’ve just heard the first firework go off (Broadwater Worthing)- seems to get earlier each year !
Doesn’t bother me, I live on my own with no pets but must be a horrible time of year for some !

If you'd like a more serious response, I gather some societies have their bonfire night as early as September, and have done for many years.

Took the dog out for a walk tonight and heard our first too. He wasn't fussed at all. We'll see how he gets on as they get nearer on the night.

Mrs T hates them. The animals (etc.). I love them and have a bumper pack in the shed. But I bought it 7 years ago and haven't blown the up yet because (see above).

I will probably have a drunken conflagration this year, if I get the chance.

Yeah, but you get that sort of thing at any time of year for all sorts of reasons.
I heard some last weekend for the first time in a while, presume it was some people getting in early.
Never sure why people bother sending up individual rockets one at a time. But then having grown up in Sussex I'm always deeply unimpressed by most firework displays.

Nevil Juvenile Bonfire in Lewes tonight. Full on display starts around 9pm, usually very impressive. 2 weeks until the full Nov 5th in Lewes....

Disgraceful, let us enjoy Halloween first, we've only had those decorations up a week. To be honest the two festivals are too close together for my liking, push Bonfire night back by about 10 days and everyone would be happy.

Here in Uckfield the Sussex firework & bonfire season started on the 3rd September. But also we have Buxted Hotel nearby to me and they have expensive weddings with fireworks all summer. There is a 'latest time' though for them. Uckfield Rugby Club also have a couple of firework displays in the summer.
I love our countryside retreat.

We got our dog on 4th Nov 2020 just before one of the lockdowns. Next night he sat in the garden watching the fireworks. The NYE and next bonfire nights he was utterly terrified - and he's a working springer so should be OK with bangs ! I suspect they grow into the fear so good luck.

Reading this thread yesterday I thought it was too good to be true that I hadn’t heard any in Newhaven yet, spoke too soon as just seen/heard some rockets.
Every year from sometime in October we are treated to regular mini displays by local kids in a nearby park, not sure where they get their money from.

Used to live on the procession route in Newhaven. Always thought it a shame they stopped doing it.
More to the point, what sort of child spends their unexplained spare money on rockets when there's vodka to be buying? Kids nowadays .

Our Lab, Henry, barely noticed fireworks when he was younger but by the age of about three (he's five now) he had developed a fear of the loud bangs, so this also extends to thunderstorms.

He shakes like anything and pants continually, poor thing and it takes him a long time to calm down again after the bangs end. This year, we're going to re-assemble the crate he had as a puppy and both cover it and line it to see if he likes it as a safe space to retreat to when the fireworks are at their worst. We may be at the stage where it would be kinder to get some sort of drug from the vet to calm him down.
