I used to love bonfire/Guy Fawkes night as a kid . . . Miss the fires on the beach.

And luzzing bangers at each other, especially the red ones from france. 3-2-1 were crap
Bangers in tobacco tins.....excellent!
And jumping jacks/bangers that you could throw…..oops naughty

Used to fire air bombs out of tubes at the neighbours ….who were firing back mind

Not forgetting dicing with death yourself with those totally unpredictable jumping jacks threatening to burn your ankles. And for year round anti social none better than those tiny French bangers that looked like mini sticks of dynamite!

It was what nature intended, Darwinism in action

Then they introduced health & safety and look where we are

So it's the Fireworks industry who are now controlling the media. I guess they took over from the Petrol industry controlling the media in the last couple of weeks. I wonder what industry is going to take over controlling the media next :lolol:

Turkeys. Mortgages will be available..................

Yes there is a shortage as all the drug dealers have cleared the shelves so that they can signal when drugs are available.

Good policy. Feed the media with a predicted shortage and whack up the prices. So many have done just that with all sorts of products since the start of the pandemic, it's hardly original or surprising any more.

More likely to do with the cost of shipping containers going up 7 fold and a whole bunch of other issues like staff shortages in factories in Asia. People cant sell stuff that isnt here, and if there is less of it...
It's far more complicated than a conspiracy to up prices especially with dangerous goods like fireworks

Personally I think they should be banned. its literally burning money. it can't not be good for the environment on any level, they are potentially dangerous and largely pointless.

I could be just miserable but think how much is wasted every year in London alone and Melbourne and everywhere else as a willy waving exercise,

plus tech is moving on, last year was illuminated drones and lasers - pretty impressive and reusable.

Oh, there may be other (some genuine) factors as well, but still creating a perceived shortage and upping the prices is common enough, sadly. Covid has given the haves a glorious opportunity to take more money off the have nots - and they will!

Still in Brighton
Love a bonfire, burnt marshmellows and burnt baked potatoes. Can't stand fireworks, so naff and they're a pathetic waste of money and would be better replaced by a laser show. I also have a cat so all the amateur back garden fireworks are a pain in the arse around here.

Just a quick heads-up: big signs have gone up all over Preston Park saying that the grand firework display this year is this wednesday, 3rd November. Always a great display and great to see it back. Maybe best bring wellies tho, the park's a tad soggy underfoot

The new work place I’ve joined has an active social calendar, including a BBQ, massive bonfire, and fireworks for Nov 5 - this year it’s happening on Thursday (I know; don’t ask me). I’ll be cooking 400 burgers apparently. We’ve spent £35k on fireworks; I nearly fell off my chair when HR told me. The Board has asked me to improve profitability. I think I’ve found a way to put £34,500 on the bottom line next year.

Will the Covid-19 test site remain open so that the attendees can get their PCR test done on leaving?

It's an outdoors event. Pretty sure the council will have done an exhaustive risk assessment for it to go ahead. Unlike the lip-service paid at the Amex where the 95% anti-maskers go completely unchallenged on the concourses
