EMERGENCY services are at the scene of a serious fire in Hove.

Eye witnesses have said Palmeira Avenue has been shut at both ends with police and fire crews in attendance.

The emergency services are near the Palmeira pub and it is understood a commercial premises is on fire, with eight fire engines in attendance.

8 appliances? That's somewhere between 40 and 45 firefighters, so quite a substantial incident by the sound of it.

Maybe once upon a time - very rarely more than 4 per appliance these days...
