Spot on. I have never understood why the place is held in such esteem. Funny how things become received wisdom with pubs if you say them enough. 'The Lion and Lobster, fabulous pub.." Why? I lived in Osprey House and used it for a good couple of years on and off, all of a sudden its 'groovy'.

Its got a travel guide sort of fame. If it gets a mention its got to be good.

Very good pub. Friendly and lot of money recently invested, shame not on the G/Floor toilets though.

Excellent food and mostly friendly staff.......One tall mixed race bar woman has massive norks, worth a visit alone:thumbsup:

Glad up and running still.

You can't beat The Star but the Lion is a fine pub, good food, drink and friendly staff, some of whom are quite tasty too!

The concept of Free House has changed over the years with the advent of the pub owning companies like Enterprise Punch etc which in essence are owned by these companies but the lessee is free of tie as to what beer he/she sells. Isnt the Evening Star owned by the brewers of Dark Ale based in Ansty.

The original Firkin pubs were advertised as free houses so when I had my pub in Guildford I asked if I could hire the pub for 200 people the only condition being that they stocked Fosters, knowing full well that they were in fact owned by Allied Breweries. I complained that they werent a free house but a subsiduary company of a major company, to the Trading Standards who in turn made them paint out the free house signs in all of their pubs throughout GB.

In a pile of football shirts
still a poor excuse for a pub, compared to what else is available in the area
