Not Sorrento - whatever you do Dave. It'slike majorca only more expensive.

If you want real Italy in that area then try Positano, or Ravello. Even Amalfi (although that is very clogged up in Summer).

Sorrento is young Italians on Motorbikes ramming down the main road near the beach and keeping hotel residents awake all night.

Just my opinion like.

Well being half italian and trying to have at least one holiday a year in Italy I do know enough about many places there. However venice is where my folks come from (well near there) and I have been more than happy to help people out in terms of good and not so good places to stay. However as it is already booked I thought that any advice I could give would be appreciated.

I do think that Dave is stalking me though (albeit with a timelag), I went to Florence and a year later he goes. I went to Rome and next year he's there. I last went to venice in 2003 and he's there this year and I wento to the Amalfi coast last year and he's there this year.

If I was stalking you then surely I would be going at the same time, as opposed to a year later?

We are staying North of the city about 15 minutes walk to St Marks Square. Booked it through Expedia...some very good deals on there.

In the summer, we are doing a week in Sorrento, just outside actually- really good deal on a 5* hotel, half board, decent flights around about £1200 for the two of us.
