Another Round
I really enjoyed this. It was funnier than I thought it would be, while also being dramatic and emotional. Mads Mikkelsen was great, as were the rest of the cast who I'm less familiar with. It also means I managed to see all the films that were nominated for oscars from the main acting categories, director, writing, music and best picture.

I'm looking forward to this at the end of July.
I think I'm right in saying it will be on Amazon and not at the pictures.
Looks pretty decent for a TV movie.

I can't get my head round when watching these type of films, that the aliens are clever enough to travel light years to get to Earth and then just act like a load of wild dogs.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. You always have to flick the "logic" switch to neutral with these type of films, but I thought it was nicely paced with great special effects, good characters and an interesting concept. Jettisoning ordinary civilians 30 years forward into 2051 to do battle with an alien race that has already wreaked havoc on the planet - yup, sign me up. I'm an absolute sucker for time-travel sci-fi (Edge of Tomorrow was hugely entertaining IMO, and I need not even mention BTTF).

I'm going to give it 79%.

Just finished watching the latest Liam Neeson film, The Ice Road. CGI borrowed straight from the sharknado franchise and acting to match. Started off ok, but we could tell this was going to be laughable very early on. Stupid story, a mixture of OTT and wooden acting, pedestrian fight scenes, physics defying logic and all-round pointlessness (it's a word, right?) 2/10

It was very silly but I found it mildly entertaining. I’m assuming Liam Neeson has received a rather large tax bill recently . I had it as a 3/10.

Me and the Mrs watched the tomorrow war last night. What started off promising just turned out to be a rip of of every alien movie ever made. I totally lost interest with the film after Pratt said "Well, I'm going to save my daughter, so I may as well save the planet." I can only imagine how many Americans would've been whooping and cheering "USA! USA! USA!"
Mildly entertaining but mostly a bit boring and predictable. Much better time travel movies out there and much better alien movies out there.

Absolutely BONKERS film. 12 random people wake up in a field having been unconscious and have no idea where they are, but it soon becomes apparent that they are being hunted for sport. The violence and gore is pretty much off the scale, even Tarantino would flinch. Its very silly, but its tremendous fun. 77%.

Watched this a while ago. Went in to it thinking it was going to be terrible but it was more enjoyable than I thought it would be. Like you say, silly but fun.

Likewise, I had low expectations but I was thoroughly entertained. It was banned for a while I gather, or the release was delayed as it would've coincided with (another) American shooting.

I took the day off work today so I could go watch the first showing of the latest marvel movie Black Widow. This was initially scheduled to hit cinemas last year before Disney+ broadcast Falcon and the Winter Soldier. That only really matters when it comes to the traditional Marvel End Credit Scene(TM).

I really enjoyed it. Yes, it's about one of the two main avengers without super powers or highly advanced tech. But it did have Red Guardian (the only Russian super soldier) who was brilliantly played by David Harbour. It's set between Captain America Civil War and Avengers Infinity War (which explains why she is still alive), and I didn't feel like they ever tried to make us worry she might die (since we know when she dies). I think the main thrust of the film makes sense if you've not seen any of the previous marvel films, but there are also elements (such as the end credit scene, and a vague reference to the troubles of her other family) that may go over your head if you're not familiar with everything, but I think there's still plenty to enjoy.

Florence Pugh is also really good as the Black Widow's sister, Yelena, and the interplay between her and Natasha, and the two of them and Red Guardian (their surrogate father), was a lot of fun.

Yes,I quite enjoyed it.
Very entertaining and pretty decent for a TV film.

Yes,I agree it was a mixture of battle Los Angeles,edge of tomorrow, independence day, alien Vs Predator and even a bit of Jurassic park and world war z And I am legend,but I still quite enjoyed it.
Pretty good special effects and Chris Pratt was good ,I quite like Chris Pratt ,he reminds me a bit of a modern William shatner.
It's inspired me to get in shape anyway just in case this actually happens in real.life when the world cup starts.

It's the Godfather of such films and amazingly it still holds up.
I don't imagine I've watched it more than once and if I did the last time would have been some 20 years ago.

I'd suggest watching it again as a palate cleanser.
It was funny yet interesting to note just how far that genre of film has come yet simultaneously stayed exactly the same.

With a case to be made it's actually regressed, due to CGI.

I've a few days back returned from Spain, and am locked away, accompanied by an exercise bike, overtime, homemade bread, and a roaring TV. Friday is my day 5 release test, so I hope for a result on Saturday, and then cinema on Sunday, which is also my birthday. Enthralling eh.
Whilst working throughout the day I'm watching films though, most of which I wouldn't bother with if I didn't have so much time on my ass. Today was a low, with Armageddon - I watched Con Air the other week and it seems like there's an uncomfortable humour with Steve Buscemi's characters and paedophilia in each. Bruce Willis has pretty much always been a bad actor, and even though he's not asked to stretch himself in this, it's funny to watch the very slight movements of his head and eyes.
Following that was Hobbs and Shaw. Much in keeping with the furious franchise, it is vacuous macho kaka, but it is loud and foul and probably liked by younger pups than I.

Overall, I'm trapped indoors, watching dogsh*t films, and it's making me angrier. To the football.

I was almost watching anew, I doubt there was more than 5 minutes of footage I could have placed in the film and most of that was Dennis Quaid!!


The associated podcast I listened to afterwards made an excellent point I did pick up on as well.

The scene where the New York cop stops his car which sets of a chain of car bumps and crashes looked great because they were crashes.
Done now they'd start by, touching up with CGI, but there's no way the makers would stop at that and they wouldn't be happy until that 30 secs looked so unrealistic it took you out of the film.

Freaky
This was disappointing. From the makers of the excellent Happy Death Day this is a body swap horror where serial killer Vince Vaughn swaps bodies with a high school outcast. There are a few laughs to be had with Vaughn acting like a teen girl, but it wanted to have its cake and eat it too - it wanted to work with a silly idea, but be a serious horror. There weren't enough laughs for the comedy to work, and the premise was too silly for a striaght horror.

Just giving the below post a little bump. It's going to be on at the Komedia on Tuesday 20th July as part of their Discover series. Hopefully not long until a wider release, but if you can make it, I'd certainly recommend you go.

The Glasgow film festival is currently running online, and following a recommendation from a friend, I decided to check out Riders of Justice a Danish film starring Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, Hannibal, Polar and the replacement for Johnny Depp as Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts series). Mads plays a soldier and husband of a woman who is killed in a train accident, who is struggling to come to terms with it and help their daughter do the same when he is approached by a man who was also on the train and claims it wasn't an accident, and together with a couple of friends they plot revenge. Tonally I'd liken it to 'In Brugge' - it's funny while dealing with dark subject matter and strong violence. Strong recommendation. I loved it.

Finally watched Black Widow last night and it was thoroughly meh.
It was mostly not very interesting, not a great deal of action, the humour wasn't very humourous, and I get that they were going for the whole "right on sister" approach, but Taskmaster should be a man, his name is Anthony Masters, why shoehorn in a female character? Pointless.
It passed the time but I didn't really see the point of it, even the ending credits scene is just a plug for a new Disney series, and let's hope that is better than the utter shite that was Falcon and Winter Soldier (that said, Wanda Vision was very good and I'm very much enjoying Loki at the moment.)

I also saw Black Widow. I don't follow superhero films so got a bit lost with some of the references but a perfectly serviceable if rather unoriginal action flick. I liked the Red Guardian character.
