As I said on the thread when we moved up to 4th, the system favours England because we don't lose many games. All friendlies and qualifiers count and generally we do pretty well in these. The fact we lose the really important games doesn't have that much bearing on our ranking. I'm not saying for a moment that we're the 3rd best team in the world but when we've only lost once in our 16 games (I think) it's not hard to understand why they have us 3rd.

We have the worst England team in living memory and we are the third beast team in the world. You sure the rankings are not upside down?

FIFA rankings mean literally nothing. Shit all. Nout.

Fifa should just get rid of the ranking table or find a way where they can rank teams properly.

Decides which pot teams go in for tournaments. It's worth getting as high as you can. Wales found themselves in the lowest pot for World Cup 2014 qualifying.

It's easy to rise to third when you've just picked up a mass load of ranking points for playing in a tournament you hadn't played in when it last came around.

It's a bit like tennis, Rafael Nadal it is basically impossible for Nadal not to take a massive leap in the rankings next year after Wimbledon, because he was barely involved in this one. And because he didn't play the Olympics, he can only gain there as well.

Well given these rankings are put together by FIFA are we really that surprised

They make about as much sense as their world cup selection criteria and FIFA presidential voting

Agreed. The other thing to take into consideration is when we do lose, alot of the time it is on pens. Technically a draw.
