FIFA, corruption, Panorama, discuss.....

Although my apathy for international football is at an all time high, those corrupt pocket fillers at FIFA still wind me up. I wish we could just split from them, forget international football until others follow, and form a new governing body. Simples.

Way out west
Saw the last two minutes of the programme, so probably not best able to comment, but I like Mellor's idea of destroying FIFA then starting again...possibly the only way to regain any credibility for those running the game and for people to have any faith in the way it is being done.

I think the average English football fan would accept the FA taking a stance and potentially getting us excluded from the world cup, however it would need support from other significant FAs, which unfortunately, I can't see happening.

When questioned by the BBC reporter. they were acting like big time politicians with their henchmen wrapped around themselves. FIFA is rotten to the core, that has always been known and the fact that a dossier/report has been produced regarding this scandle, it is currently sitting in the vaults of a legal practice in Zurich until their re-election votes in 2 weeks time is shocking. Until THAT report has been issued the current board of FIFA should be suspended and if not released after that FIFA should be re-formed

No it shouldn't:D

I concur Jimbo. They are all horrible corrupt scum and i foresee it being no more than a few years before there are some big scandals revealed via the press

Worthing
What's to discuss? This implies that there is an argument that says they aren't corrupt. The only ones saying that are the two candidates.

It does not imply that at all, it implies discussion at many levels. WTF are you talking about

If we go it alone, you can kiss goodbye to international football as no one who doesn't break away will be allowed to play England. Secondly, you can kiss goodbye to any foreign footballers and that would decimate the premier league. Might be good for the average joe English footballer but quality would be watered down throughout the leagues. The EPL wouldn't stand for it as they have spent a lot of time building up the EPL brand so they would not allow the FA to act and we all know the FA are powerless by comparison to the EPL!!!!

An excellent waste of time.

It seems that Switzerland have pretty much said clean up your act or get out. It would be nice to see them fail catastrophically to do so and end up in the wilderness. I'd love to see a breakaway from FIFA, but I am sure there are too many greased palms. It should not be left up to one FA to lead the charge. They are ripe for the plucking. Strike now, strike long and strike hard.

We should have lots of governing bodies, like boxing. That way there will will lots of world cups to compete for, and since all the best teams will avoid each other - everyone who is half decent can have a one each. Football's coming home..,..

To be fair even if a new governing body came in (in the hypothetical situation of Fifa being abolished) how long would it take before they become corrupt? There are many people/countries out there who will do what is needed to get what they want. Fifa 2.0 would be corrupt in no time, though it might not show till the next round of World Cup bids.

Basically....screwed.:flameboun

A combination of a game which generates huge revenues, the inevitable involvement of countries who set the benchmark standards of public life at very low levels, and individuals like Blatter who are just inherently corrupt will always lead to a body like this being open to abuse. Having said that I think this lot's open and audacious corruption is draw dropping and I feel nauseated to think that we have been kissing their butts Personally, I would be happy to give up international football just to be rid of any link between us and this grotesque bunch.... but it won't happen.

Greedy pigs. Usual story. What will happen to them? probably nothing. They will get the sack and run away with their millions like every other criminal in this world.

It's pathetic the way we arse kissed these criminals, in the hope we might of got the World Cup.

This is the ugly side of the game. Its not really a game anymore is it, its more about the revenues it will generate.
The World Cup should be sponsor free for a start. Tickets should be made available so everyone can go without these dirty little backhanders going on in the background.

Too far from the sun
I can't see us as a country pulling out of FIFA, however if corruption got worse - or if a decent sized scandal broke - then you may see some friction between FIFA and UEFA leading to a state of Europe and the rest in world football. Also liked the bit at the end mentioning the IOC looking into the allegations, they may also bring pressure to bear, though they used to be just as bad as FIFA (maybe they still are?)

I wouldn't hold your breath on Switzerland getting too tough with them, you can be sure there are financial benefits to them of FIFA being based there. Talking tough is one thing, they won't actually do anything. They will have offered huge tax breaks to FIFA to be there in the first place, as they do with other huge companies and high earners, and if FIFA can grease a few palms worldwide, they can certainly do it at home.

Just out of interest, as I only saw the last 10 minutes - was there anything new at all in this programme? Everything I saw was rehashed old stuff.
